Troy Lee Newsome Sr., 57, of Wilson was listed in stable condition on Wednesday at a Medical facility in Greenville. He was struck by an Amtrak train Tuesday night that was travelling southbound to Florida from Virginia.
Newsome, who was riding a motorized wheelchair at the time of the accident was found lying near the tracks with injuries to his head. He was initially transported to Wilson Medical Center, then flown to Greenville.
Police are reporting there were several eyewitnesses that observed Newsome on his electric wheelchair crossing the railroad tracks while the arms were down. The accident had the tracks shut down for several hours Tuesday.
