Race4Unity 2010
WHEN: Saturday, December 4, 2010 - Panel Discussion - 1pm to 3pm
WHERE Contending for the Faith Church - 1006 Academy Street
HOSTED BY: BEFY Youth/Community Empowerment
Race4Unity 2010 is a discussion forum on the state of race relations in the 21st century. Did the election of President Obama catapult us into a post-racial society? Is the state of race relations in the 21st century stronger, weaker, or no different than it was in previous years? Why do disparities such as financial, health, and education continue to plague communities of color? What, if anything, can be done to close achievement gaps between the races? Audience members can participate in a Q/A session following the discussion.
* A fellowship/networking luncheon will be held from 11:30-12:30 followed by a 30 minute performing arts presentation. Panel discussion will begin at 1 pm. Admission is FREE.

No, the election of Obama did not "catapult us into a post-racial society" because Obama is half white. Probably the state of race relations is weaker due to the animosity caused by Obama's ineptitude. Disparities in finances, health, and education continue to plague communities of color because of the years of entitlement due to federal programs. Many of today's youth have no motivation to work because they have grown up in a culture of welfare, food stamps, AFDC, and "crazy checks" for kids with behavioral disabilities.
