Wilson County Residents & Redistricting

Guest Blogger: K Real.
On Saturday May 7, 2011, I was blessed to have been able to attend the redistricting conference at Wilson Community College attended by State Senator David Rouzer of Johnston county. It was conducted by Senator Bob Rucho via sight-to-sight tele-conference. The presentation was very informative and I felt very well put together. It included Wilson, Edgecome, Dare & Pitt counties.

RE: North Carolina Legislative And Congressional Redistricting

Personally, I felt that anyone attending would have received valuable information about the upcoming redistricting. About its process, the laws and regulations governing the process, about the timetable for completion. And they would have had an opportunity to address their concerns and issues relevant to redistricting.

However, I was very disappointed at the turnout, I counted a total of 11 Wilsonians in attendance not counting the Law enforcement presence. Out of that 11 was one City Official. That was Councilman Bill Pitt. If for no other reason than the presence of State Senator Rouzer, other city officials should have been present, as a professional courtesy.

Yes, this is a sad state of affairs for the City of Wilson. With just under fifty thousand citizens, only 11 show up for a redistricting presentation.

Redistricting will determine the representation the citizens of Wilson both for the city and county. The process of redrawing the lines will have significant impact on how you vote and who you vote for on all levels. The city, the county, state and congressional levels. This stuff is crucial.

Wilsonians you need to get involved, someone said that “one of the definitions for insanity, is to keep doing what you’ve been doing and expecting a different result.
