Cartoon Depicts Councilman as Wasteful

This cartoon appeared in the Wilson Times Saturday edition. The satire is a spoof attacking Councilman Bill Pitt, one of the few members sitting on the council who sincerely works on behalf of the citizens of Wilson. The drawing depicts him as wasting tax-payer dollars on travel expenses and implies somehow that his participation in these organization is the reason city staff has not had a raise in the last three years.

Earlier this year Pitt was appointed to serve on two committees. On the state level, he serves on the NC League of Municipalities General Government Legislative Action committee.

On the national level, he serves on the National League of Cities' Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Steering committee and is the only representative from the state of North Carolina.

Recently Pitt requested a copy of the salaries of those making six-digit figures who currently work for the city. So far his request for that information and those figures have not been delivered to him by the City Manager, Grant Goings. However, this cartoon has surfaced from the local newspaper. Interesting timing.

This isn't the first time the issue & inquiry of staff members who make six-digit figures has been brought up. Concerned citizens inquired the same a year ago during a council meeting.

This distraction is supposedly to serve as a smoke screen for Pitt's request of those salaries and to camouflage conversation regarding the $50,000.00 members voted to give Barton to market the college. Other controversial council topics upcoming in the next session include the request by a Texas firm to locate a chemical plant in the Daniel Hill neighborhood area and the 3rd public hearing on the matter of redistricting.

City council meets this coming Thursday, August 18th in the Council Chambers @ City Hall. The meeting begins at 7:00 pm.

Its my belief, that Barton College should not receive any city funding for any of its college expenses, Not until the school promises the citizens of Wilson they will no longer allow race hating organizations such as the civil war crazies; Sons of the confederacy, and Daughters of the confederacy, to utilize their facilities for their celebration of the civil war confederate "hero dead" celebration dinners. These functions serve to devide the community, and these are tax payer dollars.

Isn't Councilman James Johnson a graduate of Barton? If so, his vote should have been a conflict of interest. He is another one who needs to go...he doesn't open his mouth much doing council meetings anymore, but you can bet he has already salted the well.
