A packed house busting at the seam filled the South District Police Station Monday night. It was standing room only in the usually quiet conference room.Neighbors and friends crowed the hallway listening to Chief Thomas Hopkins talk about the recent slew of burglaries and break-ins that confronted the community. A sigh of relief came when Captain Rosheena Corpew explained two had been charged and arrested.
Residents welcomed the news of more police activity in the neighborhood communities of Glenwood Hills and Valleydale Estates. After two weeks of non-stop criminal activity and 10 burglaries neighbors are hopeful the streets will again become safe.
George Farmer, a resident in the community expressed he's lived in the community for over 30 years and had never seen nor experienced what was currently going on. "It's never been this bad he said. We've had our share of break-ins here and there. But nothing like what I'm seeing now."
There are two neighborhoods that make up Valleydale Estates and Glenwood Hills. There are close to 200 homes in this area which is shaped in the form of a horseshoe. Beacon Pointe Apartments sit in the middle of the two.
Neighbors concerned homes would be targeted while residents pressed their way to the community meeting asked the Wilson Police Depatment to monitor and patrol of the area. Neighbors not attending the meeting watched as well cruising the neighborhood streets and keeping a watchful eye.
The meeting lasted about an hour.
