Hoping for at least 50 folks to come out and share in our neighborhood association meeting as the evening grew so did the crowd. And it kept growing and growing and growing into over 300 strong while neighborhood association leaders kept right on rolling with community conversations that captured the crowds attention.
Neighbors from five South District neighborhood associations along with invited guest from District 7 gathered Monday evening at 6:30pm at Forbes Tabernacle. Citizens, clergy, community leaders from across the Districts gathered for fellowship and information and conversation.
Pastor Ernestine McGee of Faith Temple church opened the meeting with a prayer. Her church is located in the Snowden community as well as the hosting facility LN Forbes Tabernacle.
Chief Thomas Hopkins and Captain Scott Biddle welcomed the crowd. The men talked about South District business and community policing. They also shared with the South District residents that Hopkins's replacement has been named.
Akihlah Ensley with the US Census Bureau shared information and entertained questions from the audience. A popular question currently being asked by quite a few is if you've already mailed the census back and you received another in the mail do you have to fill that one out too? The answer is no.

Councilman Bill Pitt thanked the crowd for coming and said he had never seen such a great showing of enthusiastic citizens gathered at a neighborhood association meeting.
We'd also like to acknowledge and thank the following clergy and faith-based community churches who were in attendance Bishop Perry, Pastor Elbert Forbes, Minister Gloria Carter, Rev. Kenneth & Margaret Martin and those who may not have gotten the opportunity to sign-in. We just wanna thank you.
A very special thank you to LaFan Forbes and the Tabernacle congregation for the use of the facility.
