Council Members Weigh in on Nash County Board of Commissioners Decision to Purchase Land

Recently, City Council members Gwen Burton, Donald Evans and Bill Pitt voiced their concerns and opinions about Nash County Board of Commissioners' decision to purchase land near NC 97 and I-95 that would allow a chicken processing plant to be built near the Wilson County line.

The City of Wilson opposes the plant citing concerns the plant would have a significant negative impact on the city’s water supply, the general quality of life and would lower property values in that area.  Read more

"I think they're making sure they have possession of that land so no one would buy it and use it for a development," Evans said. DID YOU COME TO THAT BRILLIANT CONCLUSION ALL BY YOURSELF MR EVANS OR DID A SECOND GRADER ADVISE YOU?

Wilson Councilman Donald Evans said he could only assume the planned $1.2 million purchase of 145 acres on N.C. 97 is for Sanderson Farms' chicken processing plant.MR EVANS YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS TO YOU AND ME WHEN YOU START ASSUMING THINGS?

Councilman Bill Pitt said the new jobs would be a boost for the unemployed. He also said that the Nash commissioners have the authority to purchase the property for industrial development in Nash County.
"That's their county and I feel like they have the right to buy what they want and need to buy," Pitt said. "I don't feel there is a company around here that would try to set up a business in any county without checking
on the environmental rules to see what's required. I feel like that's what they did.
"We need business. We need the jobs. There are so many people out of work. If we can get 200 jobs, that would be good."
Pitt believes Nash County leaders should be open to talking about the plant and discussing the environmental concerns regarding the watershed.
"I think all elected officials should sit down, especially if they're in close proximity," Pitt said.
MR PITT YOU MAY BE THE ONLY ONE OF THE 'SEVEN DWARVES" WITH ANY COMMON SENSE . WE ARE GOING TO DO OUR DEAD LEVEL BEST TO GET RID OF THE "BIG FOUR" ENTRENCHED INCUMBENTS ON THE BALLOT NEXT TEAR AND RESTORE SOME INTEGRITY AND COMMON SENSE BAK ON COUNCIL.

"Water, like air, is necessary to life, both of human beings and communities," Burton said. so is food gwen. do you and your family like to eat chicken , turkey pork , beef and other processed meats. they have to be located somewhere and someone has to do those jobs if we are not to go hungry.

Donald Evans owns a business in Wilson doesn't he? What does he deal in...what's his commodity? Do we know whether or not his company is a danger or hazardous to us? Yet he can sit so smuge on council and pass judgment about another company that wants to bring jobs to a depressed area of the state, increase the tax bases to help defer the cost of these high utilities rate for the citizens and are willing to come to help make this happen and these selected idiots are crying the sky is falling if they build a chicken processing plant too close to our water supply. Bruce Rose and the rest of em except Pitt are mad at Nash county cause they didn't want in on building Buckhorn Reservoir. Bottomline. So they're calling this lawsuit payback to stab Nash county in the back for not doing what Wilson Co wanted them to do when they wanted them to do it. Tick for tack crap!

Gwen "Go-Along to Get Along" Burton is a brillant idiot. I hear she's so smart she's stupid with it and no damn common sense. You folks over in district 2 - you need to do something different in 2011 and get rid of this ignoramus once and for all. You guys almost did it the last time - lets make sure it happens this time. You have better qualified folks on that side of town who can better represent your interest and this city- make that change.

I just can't believe city council members do not want to boost the economic development for this area by doing what they're doing. if you ever doubted it before you have your proof now - these elected officials with the exception of Bill Pitt don't give a damn about you and me. They don't care about your children or grandchildren or the young adults in this community have somewhere they can get a job - and earn a decent wage for an honest days work. Yet they continue to feed into a culture that helps to create robberies and stealing, breaking and entry and car jacking incidents by not allowing a company to come and offer an employment solution. Have I exaggerated here in describing this community's lack of bringing jobs to this area where folks can make a living - WELL, have they exaggerated about the chicken poultry plant and the overprized Buckhorn reservoir project where they charge and make money from selling them WATER when other cities want to buy water from Wilson? They're making money and don't want to allow the average citizen of this county to the opportunity to do the same. And where was the complaint about Smithfield slaughterhouse when it came to town...And the same goes for Bruce Food - you know i'm telling the truth - the place stunk to high heaven and since they wanns go that route - is Bridgestone Firestone emitting any dangerous toxins in the community from their tires and that stinking fiberglass company you used to smell going ove the bridge on Hines St... get real Wilson. Wake the hell up and get these good for nothing but padding their pockets butts out of office. And look you got a mayor who is the chair of the board of Electricities - yes the same folks who have your electric rates higher that Duke Power or Progress Energy and then they say there is nothing they can do. That's a lie. Why you think they have Bruce Rose sitting as chair of the board? To keep you people in line, you people of this county he represents to hold the glue together for electricities, Bruce Rose don't give a damn about Wilson - he'll tell you that he ain't but you can believe your last bottom dollar Bruce Rose is stashing 50,000 bucks for being the chair of the board and whatever other perks he gets.
