Gwen Burton Speaks on the city's lawsuit

We know you've heard the old saying...things that make you go hmmm. Here's another one for you.

Councilwoman Gwen Burton remarked that even though jobs would be created by Sanderson Farms a poultry business looking to build in neighboring Nash County, she believes "the natural resources of Wilson are even more important." Now that's an interesting thought and definitely qualifies as something to make you go... hmmm.

Burton went on to say, "Water, like air, is necessary to life, both of human beings and communities. Wilson has invested many millions of dollars to establish a reliable supply of water. That water supply and our watershed must be protected. It is worth fighting for." And that's a comment worth examining.

With the Employment Security Commission and the Bureau of Labor Statistics out, North Carolina's jobless rate is up and officially leading the country in the number of jobs lost in November - Do, WE THE PEOPLE hear you saying Ms. Burton, according to your recent statement - that your care and concern is more about the "water factor" than the people? And here's your statement one more time ... just for the record

"Water, like air, is necessary to life, both of human beings and communities. Wilson has invested many millions of dollars to establish a reliable supply of water. That water supply and our watershed must be protected. It is worth fighting for." (Councilwoman Gwen Burton)

   WHAT EXACTLY ARE YOU SAYING???

So "natural resources" trump...ah...let's see... the concerns of the citizens of this community who struggle with paying their high electric bill?

Wilson's rates are amongst some of the highest in the state and the country as well, yet a million dollars wasn't set aside for that last year when so many came before you and council members asking for reprieve as they struggled to keep their homes lit and warm. A necessity in the dead of winter. And we doubt very seriously a million dollars will be set aside this year either...

We are right about that aren't we Ms.Burton? No million dollars will be set aside for "the peoples' problems" with high electric bills versus your "pompously perceived" problem with protecting the watershed. Oh, now we see, the State and Federal entities in place set aside to regulate and monitor such businesses as the poultry plant, don't know how to do their jobs and you're more knowledgeable about the process.

Oh, our bad, we forgot...
"YOUR" staff members are trying desperately to persuade the public that it's THE PEOPLES' fault for using too much electricity - unwisely and wastefully - and thus we, the people must change our wicked wasteful ways of using electricity - it is not the fault of a high rate imposed on THE PEOPLE by the City of Wilson. It's the PEOPLE's fault. This is the reason OUR ELECTRIC BILL is as high as it is.

You know, the absolute insane thing about the city's campaign effort to re-educate the public about how to use electricity properly is it's a moot point. Electricity was discovered to be used. It's a commodity designed to be used for the purpose of the consumer - leisure, pleasure or necessity. The consumer's choice. Regardless of the preference aforementioned - IT WAS MEANT TO BE USED.

NOW - IF YOU'RE LISTENING AND PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION - THE CHOICE, WE THE PEOPLE DON'T HAVE Ms. BURTON IS A CONSERVATIVE CONTROL OVER THE RATE CHARGED FOR THE ELECTRICITY.

THAT'S YOU PEOPLE - THE CITY OF WILSON, ELECTRICITIES, WILSON ENERGY.

AND NO MATTER WHICH WAY YOU TOSS IT, FLIP IT AND SERVE IT UP IT STILL COMES BACK TO COUNCIL.  THAT BE YOU, Ms.BURTON AND THE REST OF YOUR COUNCIL COLLEAGUES & COHORTS!

YOU NEED TO TAKE A LESSON YOURSELVES FROM ALL THE VIDEOS YOU HAVE CIRCULATING AMONGST YOURSELVES INFORMING FOLKS ON HOW TO CONSERVE.

STOP THE CHARADE . . . IMPLYING PEOPLE ARE STUPID AND THE PUBLIC IS TOO DUMB TO SEE THROUGH YOUR BULL-CRAP. STOP THE INSANITY!

WILSONIANS. . . ARE NOT AS STUPID, DUMB OR IGNORANT AS YOU & THE CITY COUNCIL WANT TO BELIEVE. FOLKS HAVE LISTENED AND WATCHED HOW YOU TALK DOWN TO CITIZENS WHO COME BEFORE YOU TO SHARE THEIR THOUGHTS; LAUGHING AT THEM AND GIGGLING WHILE THEY MAKE THEIR COMMENTS - WHISPERING BACK AND FORTH - AND MAKING YOUR OWN COMMENTS SUCH AS THE SAME STUPID PEOPLE KEEP COMING MAKING THE SAME STUPID COMMENTS... DO YOU REMEMBER. AND YOU DARE SAY YOU REPRESENT THE CITIZENS OF THIS WELL!

OK... Here we go - WE, THE PEOPLE got rid of Wayne Gay and the 28 year reign he held over the citizens of this county whom he claimed to have served well also - BUT we're still having to deal with you SCROOGES - taking food out of the mouths of babes, senior citizens and low income families by forcing them to make life-threatening choices for the basic necessities of life e.g. to eat, buy medicines and pay their rent/mortgage payments those monthly expenditures they must maintain for the basics of life or pay for a ridiculous electric bill that cost as much as a rent or mortgage payment itself. And you want to invest in natural resources and protect the water and not the people. Folks using Duke Energy and Progress Energy, their backs are not up against the wall when it comes to this basic necessity.

Someone recently asked what about the children. What about empowering them with an opportunity to make a living, earn an honest days pay for an honest day's work for a "hopeful chance" of a decent quality of life living in this community. Gainful employment is the basics of survival within a community and should not be denied based on fear, the unknown and personal politics.

Just because you and the rest of the City of Wilson council members have yours is no reason to deny - an opportunity for others not to do the same. We all know the words to the song, "them that's got shall get and them that's not shall lose..." And folks understand the phrase "them that got, keep on getting."

One day when it's all said and done and you have to answer for all you've done - they'll be no bluffing. They'll be no finagling. They'll be no compromising. They'll be no "go-along-to-get-along. They'll be no colleague collaborating. That goes for the rest of you fighting so hard to deny the people that you persuaded to vote for you - you care about them and their interest... that was a lie spoken with a smile... And the devil is a liar. Oh yeah, real folks know the real deal. Municipal elections are coming up in 2011. You and Mr. Mayor and James Johnson and AP Coleman are up for re-election.

This million dollar effort you and your fellow council members along with Mr. Mayor have concocted to consciously exploit the facts of a poultry plant coming to the area for your favor has put a new spin on the phrase - "Pay to Play." Need we say more!

PS
Oh yeah, side note -
That little stunt you pulled bringing your utility bill to the council meeting earlier in the year to demonstrate you were a victim of  high electric rates too - nothing but an amateurish bluff. Folks really wanted to know why your a** was on the equal payment plan any damn way. You really didn't need  it and you shouldn't have been on it thus allowing for someone who genuinely needed it to have that space as the program was on a limited basis.

GWEN,
IT TAKES MORE THAN WATER AND AIR TO SUSTAIN LIFE. IT TAKES FOOD. THIS PLANT AND THESE JOBS HAVE TO BE SOMEWHERE IF OUR PEOPLE ARE NOT TO GO HUNGRY. YOU EMBILCILES CAN NOT SEEM TO RUN JOBS AND INDUSTRY AWAY FAST ENOUGH IN OUR OWN CITY AND COUNTY. NOW YOU WANT TO SPEND MILLIONS OF "OUR" TAX DOLLARS TO DO THE SAME IN A NEIGHBORING COUNTY. WHEN YOU AND COUNCIL EAT YOUR TURKEY AND HAM OVER THE HOLIDAYS, REMEMBER WHERE IT COMES FROM AS YOU PUT IT IN YOUR GRUBBY MOUTHS AND BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO CHOKE ON IT.

Somebody needed to tell the truth. Thank you for being real enough to keep it real. Sounds like this lady is out of touch with the real people.

Gwen Burton doesn't represent me. I don't live in her area. I also hear she doesn't live in her area either. She uses the address as a front. But if i did live in her area and she was suppose to be my council person I'd be finding a way to help get her off the city council. She's been on there too long anyways.
