Wilson Community Lenten Services

Community Lenten Services will be hosted by First United Methodist Church, 100 Green Street, NE, beginning Wednesday, March 9, and continuing through April 13. Services will begin at 12 noon with lunch following at 12:30 p.m. The schedule is as follows:

March 9 Preacher: Pastor Russ Nanney, First United Methodist Church
March 16 Preacher: Reverend Sam Fuson, First Christian Church
March 23 Preacher: Reverend David Haley, Winstead United Methodist Church
March 30 Preacher: The Reverend Doctor Tom Watkins, First Presbyterian Church
April 6 Preacher: Doctor Michael Bell, St. John AME Zion
April 13 Preacher: Doctor Doug Murray, First Baptist Church

What is Lent?

Lent, is the period of fasting and prayer from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday before Easter. The days represents the time Jesus spent in the desert overcoming temptation by Satan. The period of Lent is preparation for the annual commemoration of the death and resurrection of Jesus, celebrated during Holy Week. Lent is a Teutonic word , meaning spring season.
