Wilson's Humanitarian Award Banquet Set

The Paul Lee Stevens Humanitarian Awards banquet will be held on Friday, February 26, 2010 at the Darden Alumni Center. Nominations are currently being accepted and applications are due by Friday, February 10, 2010. Forms are available at the Human Relations office located next door to city hall or online at the city's website http://www.wilsonnc.org/ look under human relations.

This is the 39th Human Relations Awards program. While there are several categories in the nominating process, the Paul Lee Stevens award is the highest honor the commission betow on an individual who has given unselfishly above and beyond the call of duty to aid and assist those in need in the community. The award is named after a well known humanitarian who served the Wilson community for many years. To qualify, the nominee must be a current resident of Wilson, North Carolina. A nomination letter and achievements of the nominee along with letters of support must be submitted.

Along with the Humanitarian award, the Human Relations Commission also recognizes other contributors who offer outstanding effort in the community. They are known as "Treasures of Our Community". Citizens are encouraged to apply or nominate. The categories are as follows:

Youth on the Move Award - given to a young citizen (K-12) for community involvement
Inspirational Volunteer Award - someone who inspires others to participate
Community Initiative Award - An individual or group who has started a new program in the city
Good Neighbor Award - given to an individual for their contributions to their neighborhood
Community Spirit Award - given to a civic group or club that gives back to the community
Civil Servant Award - given to a fire, paramedic or police member who has gone beyond the call of duty

Tickets for the banquet are $12.00 per person and available at the Human Relations office.
