Since its formation over 25 years ago, The organization dedicated to North Carolina Black Elected Municipal Officials also known as NC-BEMO has taken the lead in supporting public service as a way to implement change for citizens of North Carolina.
Collectively, they work to achieve political and community transformation through training, education, collaboration, advocacy and outreach programs that promote the mission of the organization.
The North Carolina Black Elected Municipal Officials represents the vision of dedicated elected officials who gathered in Asheville, N.C. in 1981 at the annual meeting of the North Carolina League of Municipalities and proclaimed the need for active engagement within the structure of NCLM. The change envisioned was to create an environment for black elected officials to become an integral part of the operations of the League.
Today, NC-BEMO is a nonpartisan, nonprofit statewide organization of current black elected municipal officials and supporters of the organization. The organization is coming to Wilson in August for its 2010 Summer Conference hosted by Wilson's Black Elected Officials Gwen Burton, AP Coleman and Bill Pitt.
T. Dianne Bellamy-Small from Greensboro, NC is the president of NC-BEMO. She is a graduate of UNC-CH & UNC-G, a proactive council representative to her constitutes and community who truly believes in "Working for the greater good of all."
Wilsonians look foward to receiving and welcoming all the Black Elected Officials to Wilson in August.
