Who Is Ashley Woolard

Ashley Woolard is challenging GK Butterfield and running for the First Congressional District of North Carolina. He wrote the following comment:

On Sunday, March 21, 2010, Congressman G.K. Butterfield cast his vote for one of the worst pieces of legislation in American history, forever to be known as "Obamacare". The following are remarks he made on the floor of U.S. House of Representatives about the passage of that legislation. Please read this and then tell all your family and friends what he stands for and the desperate need for him to be replaced as our representative in November.

Mr. Butterfield states that his district is the fourth poorest in this nation. As our congressman for the past six years he has done nothing to rectify this. He needs to be held accountable for this. WE NEED JOBS will be my main focus as we work to change the fate of this district to one with prosperity and entrepreneurship, not democratic leaders keeping the people down so that they can use the government as a means to control the citizenry. Government dependence-that is GK Butterfield.
Ashley Woolard

Below are the comments, Representative GK Butterfield spoke on the floor of the US House of Representatives on the Health Care Reform.

Mr. McGOVERN: Mr. Speaker, I yield 1 minute to the gentleman from North Carolina (Mr. Butterfield).
Mr. BUTTERFIELD: I thank the gentleman for yielding the time and for the hard work of the Rules Committee.

Mr. Speaker, I come to the well of the House today to support the rule and to commend President Obama and the Democratic leadership for their willingness to stand up for America's families and for their willingness to be strong and steadfast in the face of political opposition. My North Carolina district is the fourth poorest district in America: 100,000 uninsured, seniors unable to afford prescription drugs, rural hospitals in the red, insurance premiums increasing while insurance company profits are multiplying.

My constituents need health insurance reform, and they need it now. The time for debate is over. We are poised to deliver on the Democratic promise of health insurance reform. I am confident, Mr. Speaker, that one-day historians will write that the passage of this bill took America to a higher level, to a higher place, and restored confidence with the American people that Congress is responding to the needs of America's families.  - GK Butterfield  - March 2010

In his own words Woolard writes, " I am running because Washington, DC is broken and until regular citizens like you and me get involved with solutions, we cannot provide prosperity for our children and grandchildren. I seek this office, not as a professional politician, but instead as a citizen-legislator. I will go to Washington, DC -- do my job -- and then come back home. A role that the founding fathers envisioned for our leadership, not what the professional political class today has become."

Ashley’s top priority is helping to rebuild the economy of Eastern North Carolina. Bad trade deals have been the cause of the significant job losses experienced in our region over the last 15 years. Ashley will oppose every unfair trade deal that sends American jobs overseas.

He's going go tp DC and then come back home? Woolard doesn't even live in our Congressional district - near it but not in it. Plus, why in God's green earth should we support a guy who is going to create jobs simply by "opposing ever unfair trade deal?" That is almost as idiotic a solution to our economic problems as running for Congress when you DO NOT even live in the district.
If the guy can't vote for himself, why in my right mind would anyone else?
I seriously doubt the founding fathers would have supported the idea that people who live outside the district would best represent the people who actually call the district home!

It say he live in Washington on his web site. Do he live in the part Rep Walter Jones represent?

Does anyone know if this is true?

It says he and his parents are lifelong residents of Beaufort county. OK so is Little Washington in Beaufort County, Pitt or Martin?

Here is what's said on the website for Ashley Woolard. Please let me introduce myself. My name is Ashley Woolard and I'm running for Congress for the 1st Congressional District because I believe not enough is being done to improve the lot of its residents. The unemployment situation is dire. The educational system is not serving our needs, and we are being taxed unnecessarily to support poorly conceived and wasteful programs.

I'm a lifelong resident of Beaufort County as are my parents and my grandparents before me. I graduated from Washington High School and earned a BS from East Carolina. Upon graduation, I joined the family business, the Woolard Insurance Group, where I serve as vice-president.

My wife Jessica is also a Beaufort County native. We have two boys, Payton, six, and Parker, three, and live on Market Street Extension in Old Ford. We attend the Hunters Bridge Church of Christ.

I have been involved heavily in civic and political organizations, and served as Chairman of the Beaufort County Republican Party from March, 2007 until March 2009. I was an officer of the Washington Rotary Club for three years. In 2005, I was Rotarian of the Year for the Washington Club. I am also a member of the Old Ford Ruritan Club. I served as a board member of the club for two years and as president in 2004. In 2002, the Greenville-Goldsboro District named me Ruritan of the Year. In 2002, I was given the fund-raiser award for my work in getting our club back on a good sound financial basis.

So what county?

Ashely Woolard lives in the Third Congressional District, not the First that he's running for.

According to the North Carolina State Board of Education, Ashley McMullan Woolard lives at 7504 Market Street EXT, Washington, Beaufort County, 27889-8157.

On the map that is clearly in REP Walter Jones' district and if you go the the who is my rep on the Congress web sit -https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml - it says he lives in Jones' district too.

It's smart of him to hide that and not mention it to people, but I do wish we had someone who was from the district running to represent up. Kind of a disappointment.

Why doesn't Ashley Woolard go after Rep Butterfield on the issues? Calling someone out on their loyalty to the district seems pretty hollow when Ashley Woolard doesn't even live in the district. The issues are there and I wish Woolard would center his focus there. I'm not going to vote for Butterfield, but I don't question his loyalty to our area or his honesty.

Folks keep saying Ashley Woolard does not live in the district but if that's true how can he be running against Butterfield. And if Butterfirld believed that was true wouldn't he have looked into that himself? How do you folks who keep saying that know where he does or does not live for sure?

where do you idiots get your information. mr woolard lives in washington nc on market street extentsion in Beaufort county. beafort county is right in the heart of the gerrymandered first district to assure , not give equal opportunity mind you, but to assure a minoruty congressperson. green county gop , if you are looking at a mao that says washington nc is in the walter jones district you must have an old map . the first district was the district of the old boozing walter jones sr. at one time. his son walter jr tried to suceed his father as the democratic congressman but lost ion the minority packed gerrmandered district. he changed his party afiliation to republican and rab in the third district and won and has been a longtime incumbent. now he lives in farmville in the first district even though he is congressman from the third district. the odds of a republican or even a democrat if he is white, winning in the first district are about as much chance as a snowball has in hades. your commentors in this blog at least are as politcaly knowledgeable as i am about rocket scientistry. i am an unafiliated voter and i strongly support Calvin Woodard , but i do not support G K Buterfield

G. K. Butterfield has had opportunities galore to get the job done in Washington DC. Our district is the 4th poorest district in the nation even with him in office. Since he obviously is not doing the job to make our district thrive, it is time to elect someone to Washington that CAN get the job done. Butterfield demonstrates his lack of appreciation for the constituents that vote for him each and every time he gets sent back by not taking phone calls, sending form letters, and not addressing issues of anyone that is not of his direct party alignment. The DNC is not suppose to be his boss.... the citizens of our district are. Vote Woolard and see if he can get the job done for a change. I live in Wilson, and I've lived in other parts of the country. I have never seen an area more depressed, and it is sad the people who have always lived here think it has to be this way. Please, please, please..... get out to vote....... and vote the incumbents that kept us in this mess OUT of office and elect people who really have a chance for change to make a difference and help us!!!
