Education is the Not the Enemy

Providing our children with a “sound, basic education” and making higher education as “affordable as practicable” are promises so sacred, we put them in our state constitution.

Those promises are under attack in the shell fire of the Republican budget passed recently. In Nash-Rocky Mount, Wilson and Pitt County schools alone, $18 million will be cut from the classroom. For many of our teachers, teaching assistants, and school staff, the last day of school will be followed by the first day of unemployment.

The Republican budget cuts universities by $414 million, which will result in eliminating courses, programs, and thousands of faculty and staff.

East Carolina University’s library cuts would directly impact student learning and faculty research due to limited books purchases and cancellations of core journal and database subscriptions.

Tuition will go up once again under this Republican budget, shutting out middle class families who depend on our public universities and community colleges to give their children a pathway to higher education.

Education is the hallmark of North Carolina. It’s the one thing that truly sets our economy apart from our neighbors. Under the Republican budget, it will be defunded like never before at every level.

Sincerely, We want to " Make Our Message known and "Our Voices Echoed" in the communities we call home. We're sending a signal " Loud & Clear," we DISAGREE!

WE, THE CITIZENS of the WILSON COMMUNITY PLEDGE OUR SUPPORT TO OUR EDUCATORS & THE EDUCATION of OUR CHILDREN and we're FIGHTING BACK!

[ Take the time to write a letter to your local newspaper and other media outlets, FB family & friends. We need to get the word out to amongst as many folks as we can. We're serious about this matter. We can make a difference. Let's start today and this is the way. ]
