Wilson County Commisioners'
Believe it or not all seven county commisioner seats are up for re-election this year. Emory, Edwards, Boyette, Williford, Jones, Lucas and Robbins are pondering whether to run again or retire. Filing begins in February and primaries, should there be a need in May. The general election's will be held in November.
Wilson's First Dinner Salute to the Generals
Southern heritage was celebrated for two great confederate generals, Robert E. Lee and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson at a dinner recently. Bruce Jackson, one of the organizers for the event was quoted as saying "every family represented at the tribute that night had someone who wore the gray." He went on to say "many are hesitant to acknowledge their own heritage," on account of being as they say politically correct. The dinner is planned to become an annual event.
Local Non Profits Struggling to Offer Services
As is the case across the country, reductions in state and local funding is crippling agencies and forcing them to find a way to do more with less. The agencies depend on generous giving from the citizens in the local community to help sustain their programs. Wilsonians are touted for going the extra mile and extending donations graciously when needed.
Green Taxi's Blues
Hold On - Back It Up ... Green Taxi's request to be added to the city's transportation line might not be dead, just yet. Putting the brakes on the new proposed taxi cab operation in Wilson might not be a done deal. Green Taxi will get another chance to re-apply for a license under the city's regulations. Confused council members, confusion about the location and "community confusion" from current cabbers just confused the whole process - so they wanna give the company another opportunity to try again. With new council members now in place, Green Taxi's request will be revisited at the next city council meeting on February 18 at 7:00 pm. Location: City Hall Council Chambers.
Not In My Neighborhood
Citizens from the Washington-Carver Heights Neighborhood Association told City Council members at a recent meeting they do not want residential property to be rezoned to make way for a used car lot in their neighborhood. James Haney, President of the association presented a petition with the names of citizens opposing the request. George Leach, owner of the property had plans to relocate the business from Delaware to NC. Motion was made to continue the discussion at the next meeting, February 18 at 7:00 pm.

with the exception of Roger Lucas, they all need replacing, especially Bobby Sid Boyette. in archives when he ran two elections ago he promised not to raise taxes. as soon as he got in he went along with a tax increase and we all know about the revaluation fiasco . he and they will claim to have lowered the tax rate by a few cents per hundred. they... See More wont remind you of the twenty plus percent, non revenue adjusted phony baloney property revaluation handled by the county that averaged raising your county and city property tax as the city uses the county valuations. they are as big a crooks but the four who need replacing on council the worst are not on the ballot till November 2011.he was also a proponent of moving county government out of downtown and was key in securing the sweetheart lease/ purchase fishy smelling deal for a prominent Wilson Businessman.
