Emory Calling It Quits & Home Depot Too
Long-term County Commissioner,Frank Emory says he won't seek another term and he's thankful to the citizens for allowing him to serve. Emory has served the Wilson community since the 1980's. Unlike Home Depot who set up shop in Wilson two years ago. The home improvement specialty store's liquidation sale is underway and plans to close its doors in March.

Convenience Store Clerks Caught in the Act
NC Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement agents found several area stores selling smokes to under-aged customers. Periodically, the agency conducts compliance checks throughout the state and in the latest round Wilson county didn't fair so hot. Store clerks were caught selling tobacco products to minors under the age of 18. In such cases, the clerks could face fines, community service and possible jail time. The violation is considered a misdemeanor.


Barton College President Serves on National Board
Norval C. Kneten will serve on the Council of Independent Colleges Board of Directors. CIC is a national service organization for small and mid sized independent liberal arts colleges and universities. Founded in 1956, the organization serves as a voice for higher education.

Eva Clayton to be Honored
Democrats in NC's 1st Congressional district are making plans to honor the former representative at next month's banquet to be held on March 27th at the Elks National Shrine in Winton. She's celebrated as the first African-American woman elected to Congress from NC. The event is slated to begin at 5pm and NC Democratic party leader, David Young is scheduled to speak.

Youth Program Encourages Adult Participation
Recently Smart Choices for Youth, a program for at-risk youth that provides after-school programs and mentoring for kids held its first community awareness vendor fair. Daryl Woodard, the executive director states the program is in need of mentors, especially African-American men who would volunteer for a new program called "Recover Our Youth." Matt Edwards Picks the SPOT
After spending 11 years at the Salvation Boys and Girls club, Matt Edwards has established "The SPOT" for area kids. Sharing Positive Outcomes Together is a recently formed non-profit offering a variety of programs, summer camps and sports activities for grades K-9. The program will be based at the First Christian Church on Tarboro St. with plans to open on March 1st, 2010. For more information call 252.237.3194.

Hungry Anyone
Spaghetti Dinner sale,February 16th @ St. Therese Catholic Church located at 700 Nash St. from 11am to 3pm & 5pm to 7:30pm. The cost is $7.00 per person. If you decide to "sup" at the church it's all you can eat. Take out orders are available in the evening. Kids under five eat for free. Proceeds go to the Bishop McGuinness Council of the Knights of Columbus.

Congratulations Chaplain
Naval Chaplain, Lt.Commander Carl Barnes has received a Meritorious Service Medal. Awarded the medal in recognition of his efforts while serving at the Naval Chaplain school in Newport,RI, Barnes said,he was humbled, grateful and honored to be selected. Barnes is a 1980 graduate of Beddingfield High School.
