Citizens concerned about the actions of the local democratic party hand-delivered a letter to the state Democratic Party in Raleigh recently. The letter addressed Chris Boykin, the chair for the Wilson Democratic party and the lack of local party support for the democratic sheriff nominee.
The NC Democratic Party Plan of Organization specifically states, "any officer or committee member at any level who directly or indirectly gives support to, aids or helps any opposing political party or candidate of any opposing party or who refuses or fails to perform his or her duties ...may be removed from office. That's pretty straight-forward don't you think. OK with that in mind, let's review the facts shall we:
(1) Chris Boykin is a Major with Wilson County Sheriff Department. (WCSD)
(2) Chris Boykin is indeed the Chairman of the Wilson County Democratic Party which is serving as a conflict of interest.
(3) Chris Boykin is the former Chairman of the Committee to re-elect Wayne Gay for Sheriff.
(4) Chris Boykin supports the unaffiliated candidate currently running for Sheriff against the democratic nominee.
(5) Chris Boykin has not endorsed and refuses to acknowledge the Democratic nominee for the WCSD since May primary.
(6) Chris Boykin’s actions and lack thereof in publicly supporting the unaffiliated nominee has caused confusion within the community thus creating an environment of chaos with racial undertones prevailing.
(7) Chris Boykin refuses to answer citizens’ calls and visits to speak with him concerning this matter. Citizens are available to testify to this account based on their actual experiences.
(8) Chris Boykin has admitted to former Governor J. Hunt he is supporting the unaffiliated candidate per the quote Gov. Hunt submitted to the Wilson Times.
Here's what Hunt said to the Wilson Times, "the Wilson chapter has a temporary situation, but it will be resolved in two to three weeks. "The chair, Chris Boykin, is a good man," Hunt said. "He is supporting the other candidate and is expected to resign."
Below is a copy of the letter taken to Raleigh.

David Young, Chair, NC Democratic Party
The North Carolina Democratic Party
220 Hillsborough Street
Raleigh, NC 27603
RE: Chris Boykin, Current Wilson County Democratic Party Chair Removal
ATTN: Mr. Young
On behalf of Concerned Citizens in Wilson County, (NC) who are active community leaders and volunteers as well as faithful voters of the Democratic Party, in an effort to bring a fair and balanced resolution to the non-participatory actions of the current Democratic Party chair to actively endorse the democratic nominee for Sheriff of this county, WE, THE PEOPLE petition the request of the expeditious removal of Chris Boykin from the duties of the said position effective immediately.
According to the NC Democratic Party Plan of Organization:
10.00 REMOVAL AND VACATING OF OFFICERS AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS
10.01 GROUNDS FOR REMOVAL
Any officer or committee member of the Democratic Party at any level, including the precinct, the county, the congressional district, the prosecutorial district, the state senatorial district, the state house of representatives district, the state executive committee, the state executive council or any committee, subcommittee, or council thereof, who directly or indirectly, gives support to, aids or helps any opposing political party or candidate of any opposing party, or who refuses or fails to perform his or her duties, or who is convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude, may be removed from office. May the highlighted area in red italic serve as the allegations.
On The following Grounds:
(1) Boykin is a Major with Wilson County Sheriff Department. (WCSD)
(2) Boykin is indeed the Chairman of the Wilson County Democratic Party which is serving as a conflict of interest.
(3) Boykin is the former Chairman of the Committee to re-elect Wayne Gay for Sheriff.
(4) Boykin supports the unaffiliated candidate currently running for Sheriff against the democratic nominee.
(5) Boykin has not endorsed and refuses to acknowledge the Democratic nominee for the WCSD since May primary.
(6) Boykin’s actions and lack thereof in publicly supporting the unaffiliated nominee has caused confusion within the community thus creating an environment of chaos with racial undertones prevailing.
(7) Boykin refuses to answer citizens’ calls and visits to speak with him concerning this matter. (Factual information) Citizens are available to testify to this account based on their actual experiences.
(8) Boykin has admitted to former Governor J. Hunt he is supporting the unaffiliated candidate per the quote Gov. Hunt submitted to the Wilson Times.
(9) Boykin has admitted to Alicia Davis, Eastern Regional Field Director for the Democratic Party that he is indeed supporting the unaffiliated candidate.
From the May Primary until this day, August 6, 2010 there has been no formal or official recognition of this county’s Democratic nominee for the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office. It should have never come down to a formal request for his removal. Boykin should have resigned from being the Chairman of the Democratic party when he became the Chairman of Gay's committee.
Also, in Accordance to the NC Democratic Party Plan of Organization:
10.02 PROCEDURE FOR REMOVAL
Petitioners. Any active Democrat who petitions for the removal of an officer or committee member shall be called a Petitioner. Petitioners must be from the jurisdiction of the office or committee from which the officer or committee member against whom the Petition is filed; except that the state chair may be a Petitioner against any officer or committee member of the Democratic Party at any level.
We, The Petitioners, invoke our said and legal right as a Democrat of this county, fulfilling the jurisdiction requirement of this petition as well as the state to have this request carried out for the removal of Chris Boykin, as the Democratic Chair of Wilson County.
WE, The undersigned, submit this letter for serious consideration, action and implementation.
Best Regards,
Isiaette McArn, Isiah McArn Sr., Gene Barnes, Bill McConney, Yolanda Davis, Levolyre Pitt, Venetta McNeil-Barnes and Ricardo Dew.
*There is a copy that appears in the online version of the Wilson Times, however that letter was updated and amended prior delivery to Raleigh.

I would like to personally thank the six courageous citizens who wrote the letter to the State Democratic Party asking for Chris Boykin's resignation. This has gone on far too long (100 days now. A special thanks to Gwen Wilkins, who has taken a special interest in seeing that the right thing is being done. Governor Hunt has not been in touch with the real Democratic Party of Wilson County. . If he had been in touch, he would have known on May 5th, that there has been no support from Mr. Boykin. Shame on anyone who thought this would just go away. Doesn't Mr. Boykin realize that his behavior and that of Sheriff Gay's, just reiterates why we do not need John Farmer as the next sheriff. If John Farmer had any true respect for himself and his former Democratic Party, he would have had his friend step down because it was the right thing to do. That type of behavior is unacceptable in 2010. The longer Mr. Boykin waits to resign, the more votes will go to Calvin Woodard. I predict a good 20/80 spread in the next election. That 20% is for John Farmer and he can thank Chris Boykin for part of that low percentage. The other part is the high caliber of Calvin Woodard. There is a very large group of Democrats, Republicans, Unaffiliated, Independents and Tea Party members in this county who are interested in what is going on with our county. We have yet to see Governor Hunt at any Calvin Woodard function. Perhaps Governor Hunt will come to the Flap Jack Fundraiser at Applebee's on Saturday, August 21st. It would be great if he would show up and show his support like he has done for other Democrats in this county. Calvin Woodard is a courageous, educated and experienced law officer who is the Democratic Nominee for Wilson County Sheriff. Thank you Calvin for deciding to take on this challenge. You will make a difference in Wilson County, the best is yet to come.
On behalf of those who signed the letter, de Nada. You're Welcome. It was the right thing to do. And we like what you've said here it makes good sense...the longer Boykin waits to resign the more votes will go to the democratic nominee. And touche' on your comment about former Gov, Hunt. He can show his support by showing up at some of Woodard's events and functions. Rhetoric is one thing and reality is another.Let's see if he'll be there.
I have been really busy these last two months and I just realized that on July 12th and on July 20th, I emailed a letter to David Young, the MC State Party Chair asking advice on how to remove Mr. Boykin. I never received an answer to either of those emails. They were not returned as a wrong address or anything. I just emailed another note, this time directly to David Young at the party headquarters asking why they never responded to me. This was before and after my vacation so it kind of slipped my mind. Will let you know if I ever get a response. I did post something earlier today to you all but do not see it yet. Hope everyone has a great day. Thanks again to the Courageous Six.
Disappearing comments when they don't agree with your opinions? I call that censorship. Go ahead and be racist. Chris Boykin is not a threat.
I think Boykin should stay as long as he can. A letter has been sent to Raleigh, which was made available for reading on the newspaper's website. I don't think any of the allegations made in the letter can be substantiated. IF Raleigh differs, it's still going to take a while for all of the meetings to be held to remove Boykin. And the committees in Raleigh may agree that no wrong has been done by Boykin. I would never vote for any candidate based on his political party...that's just mindless voting. A vote should be for the most qualified candidate regardless of political party. By the way...why was it that all the petitioners who signed the letter to Raleigh were African-Americans? Could their complaints be construed as racially motivated?
To the writer who left the comment regarding disappearing comments... while the comments placed on the blog are monitored no comments have been deleted. To the one wrote the following comment - By the way...why was it that all the petitioners who signed the letter to Raleigh were African-Americans? Could their complaints be construed as racially motivated? How do you know they were all African American? AND...if they were what's the point you're trying to make? By the way...I'm white and I wrote a letter too. The only difference mine wasn't published in the paper. I fail to see your point. So if I feel the same way they do can my complaint be construed as racially motivated as well? It folks who think like you do who need to have their motives questioned. I've read your comment posted in other places you appear to be "fishing for a fight." Why?
That was then. This is now. You've been deleted and will continue to be.
