Quote: Barbara Jordan > In other times, I could stand here and give this kind of exposition on the beliefs of the Democratic Party and that would be enough. But today that is not enough. People want more. July 12, 1976
We've been told that a forthcoming statement from the current chair of the Democratic party here in Wilson is expected soon.Wow, he's had since the May 4th primary to speak to the democratic voters in this county. He has conveniently chosen not to do so.
From the time the unaffiliated candidate for the sheriff's race, made his announcement, got the required signatures to have his name added to the ballot in November, Boykin has had sufficient time to address the people... And Still We Wait...
A comment was recently left concerning the letter submitted by local registered democrats who would like to see the democratic process applied in this matter have requested the removal of Chris Boykin. In the comment section of the WT article Dems want chair out we found the following:

How has Mr. Boykin "...not endorsed and refuses to acknowledge the Democratic nominee for the Wilson County Sheriff's Department"? How has he supported the candidate for the opposing party, failed to perform the duties of his job, or been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude? How has it created "community chaos with racial undertones"? This doesn't reflect the feelings of the entire Democratic party, of which I am a member. It is unfortunate that small groups try to make decisions for the entire party, because the petitioners who signed the letter definitely are not speaking for me. Sunday, August 08, 2010 at 9:08 AM

You are definitely full of questions and unfortunately that's not the only thing you're full of. Allow me to elaborate. May I make a suggestion to you to re-read the quote shown above made by the Late Barbara C. Jordan back in 1976. Her statement still rings true even unto this day, unto this very hour where the affairs of the Democratic party are concerned. People want more than the bill of goods given to them so far where this local Democratic party is concerned. So, let's talk about your comment.

If you seriously and sincerely have to ask the questions you've asked then it's a reflection on you not paying attention to your surroundings. Community-wise that is to say. A question I might ask of you is ... are you actually here in Wilson? (City or County) makes no difference. And should you answer yes, then you're really out of touch with what's going on here; Perhaps blinded by the sunlight reflecting off the whirligigs.
AND ... Should you consider yourself being in touch and in the know with the issues regarding the Wilson County Sheriff's race, that means you are aware of the local Democratic party's lack of assistance in aiding the democratic nominee which includes and should cover an endorsement and public acknowledgment by the chair of the local party. Now you...being in the know... should know that has not happened. Well, why not? The community wants to know.
AND... Being in the know, you also know the local democratic party didn't come forth in a concerted effort to help secure a democratic headquarter for the democratic nominee when he was in need of one. And, why not? The community wants to know.
AND ... What about a spot where local registered Democrats can stop by and gather campaign literature, and information about all the Democratic nominees concerning the upcoming election. Surely the Sheriff's race is not the only race. Local Dem's need a spot to gather to talk shop for the sake of unity & democracy. Where's it at? The community wants to know.
AND ... May I suggest a review of the NC Democratic Plan of Organization to better acquaint yourself concerning the procedures and the structure of how the party operates - However, if you already are then you are already familiar with section 10.00 and 10.01. It addresses the issue of when a chair directly or indirectly gives support to, aids or helps any opposing political party or candidate...etc.
You see, "Question said" all of us are not blinded by the light. We see "true colors" shining through. From the moment the incumbent Sheriff said what he said, did what he did and called the now democratic nominee for Sheriff a fool . . . we heard that LOUD & CLEAR.
AND... when the incumbent Sheriff went on to declare he would do "EVERY THING IN HIS POWER" to make sure the "RIGHT" person gets in that office... we HEARD that too!
AND... WE CAN SEE WHAT'S HAPPENING! . . .NOW!

You are right. It is unfortunate . . . you assumed a small group intended to speak on behalf of the entire party. Your mistake. There was no attempt made in delivering the letter to the State Democratic party's office to speak on behalf of the entire party. No one who signed the letter has made that claim to speak on behalf of the entire party or even thought that to be true.
Now what you observed and evidently have a problem with . . . is the opportunity for any citizen in this country (which encompasses this city & county of Wilson, NC) to exercise our right as citizens to participate in the process of democracy and the system that provides that opportunity. A select few chose to do that.
It was not an effort to reflect the feelings of the entire Democratic party, local or otherwise of which we all are members being registered democrats. And hardly an attempt to speak for you or anyone else.
You are no more a member of the Democratic party than the next registered democrat. Again, as you've mentioned of which we all are members. The same sentiments run deep such as you've expressed. Those who delivered the letter requesting the removal of Chris Boykin from the Wilson Democratic party definitely wouldn't want you and your mindset speaking on our behalf. Definitely Not!

I agree with you 100%. Whoever wrote those comments you are talking about is out of touch with what is going on? Shame on them for being so uninformed. I, like the six that came forward, want a strong Democratic Party here in Wilson and it cannot be strong with the Party Chair not supporting the party candidates. What part of that statement does the other writer not get? If you are not supporting Calvin Woodard as the Democratic Nominee for Sheriff then you are supporting John Farmer. We get it and it is wrong and Mr. Boykin will be removed soon I am sure. It was also suggested to me that everyone who would like to see Mr. Boykin resign should send a letter. I think that is an excellent way to show our support for the courageous six. I plan to do that and mail my letter tomorrow. Will post the address of the NC Democratic Party later today. That trio of Gay, Boykin and Farmer sure think they are above the law and integrity of this county, one is going to lose, one has already lost and the one that won't step down is a loser. What a trio. November 2nd, hurry up and get here, so integrity can be restored to the Sheriff's Department.
