One Dead in Wilson Shooting

WILSON (WTVD) --

Scores of investigators were on the scene Monday afternoon after a crash and shooting in Wilson. Pictures from Chopper 11 HD showed a car in the middle of the road at Ward Boulevard and Forest Hills Road. The car was covered in blankets. Another vehicle with collision damage was stopped nearby.

Officers had streets for several blocks around barricaded off and there was crime scene tape up around both vehicles. Kolly Burritt, Public Information Officer with the City of Wilson, told ABC11 that Wilson police were called Monday morning to a domestic dispute and shooting in the 600 block of Whitehead Avenue.
Burritt said a man involved in the dispute fled the area in a BMW with other people in the car with him.

Around 11 a.m., officers located the car at the intersection of Forest Hills and Ward. As officers approached the car, shots were fired inside and then the BMW went through the intersection and collided with two other cars. One person in the BMW was dead at the scene and another was taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital. No one in the other cars was hurt.

The State Bureau of Investigation confirmed to ABC11 that it was called in to assist with the case. Tune in  this evening as channel 11 updates this developing story. Watch ABC11 Eyewitness News beginning at 5 p.m. for a live report.
