Woolard To Butterfield: "Step Down"

In Recent News:
Local Republican Congressional Candidate, Ashley Woolard is asking for his democratic opponent, G.K. Butterfield to step down from the ethic's committee. The Beaufort County Resident made Greenville his first of three stops in the First Congressional District.

He announced his disgust of Congressman Butterfield's acceptance of political funds from New York Congressman Charlie Rangel . Rangel is currently under investigation by the ethics committee in which Butterfield is a member. Woolard claims, his acceptance of the money is an example of corruption in Washington, D.C.

Butterfield issued this statement about the allegations saying: "The bulk of the donations - $3,000 - came nearly five years ago during the 2004 election cycle. It is common for members of congress or their leadership PAC to donate funds to assist those aspiring for a congressional seat."

THE COMMENTS:

Posted by: James Location: Ahoskie on Jul 29, 2010 - We the people will vote Butterfield out in Nove. He is in DC for himself only. He made a quick visit here 3 weeks ago and in Merry Hill claming all he has done for us and will do which is half truths and lies. His voting record has been straight down the party line of every bill since he has been in DC. He is nothing but a bombasting lap dog for Obama and Palosi. Yes we the people will remove him and any one who are unwilling to represent the people. He is one of our best examples of what is wrong with our Gov. He is also a member of the Baptist Church in Wilson and I sure they do no appreciate all the yes votes he has casted which includes the Health Care Bill which incudes abortions which is nothing more than murdering unborn children. Go away G K Butterfield you make eastern NC smell like a skunk.

Posted by: Robert Location: Edenton - I have written Rep. Butterfield 4 times, asking him various questions, the first being why he voted not to go on the Obamacare medical system he admitted he hadn't read - but voted for. I mentioned he was like the rest, sitting in high cotton with his Golden Parachute Congressional Medical/Dental Plan, and he responded by saying he didn't use the Congressional Plan, that he used the NC State Plan. If that is true, he is double dipping, because as a federal Congressional Representative, he is automatically qualified for the Federal Healthcare Plan. After that response, ne never answered any more of my questions. I did not vote for Elizabeth Dole last time because she wouldn't answer my correspondence either. So I voted for Kay Hagan, and she turned out to be a Democratic rubber stamp, always voting the party line in every case. She will not answer my correspondence either. The only Congressman who will respond to my questions is Senator Richard Burr. He has always answered every letter.

Posted by: NP -...do you really think New Blood is any better then the old? they are all politicians and sponsored by someone. Men do not change ! The names and people may but thing will always be the same. That's why we have to stay on top of them.

Posted by: @ race? - "You are a product of your experience. I'm a U.S. congressman, and I feel some degree of discomfort when I'm in an all-white group. We don't have the same view of the world, our experiences have been different." .I fully understand where he was coming from and it was a racial slur.

Posted by John - ...this happens all the time in my County.Had nothing to do with Butterfild.I sat for a week. I got paid the difference what the court /minimum wage. Be glad he found you responsible enough to serve. We need good people on juries. You employer should be the one you're mad with.

Posted by: Asterix Location: NC - Well, lets put extremist Tea Partiers in office and then all the regulations and consumer protections are erased. What happened to the housing and mortgage markets will happen to everything else when Wall Street makes another run on us. Then our kids will all breathe and drink pollution while the international CEOs make billions. We're not just taxpayers, we're people. Freedom for the rich, poverty, drudgery and toil for the rest. My guess is that Woolard knows so little about politics that he bases decisions on ideology rather than reason. Enough already! We're in two wars and you want a tax cut? What have you sacrificed? Shame on you.

Posted by: McArthur PArk - Clayton, Ballance and now Butterfield. They just keep getting better!!!

Posted by: Sam` Location: Kitty Hawk - Go take him out Ashley. Take this filthy crook out. He takes all this from us taxpaying citizens and also gives handouts to the welfare recipients. I hope Woolard wins this. John I feel for you there.

Posted by: Anonymous -butterball will never step down. he was unqualified to begin with just like those who held the office before him. However, those who put him into office only see color.

Posted by: just pondering.... frankly, i'm amazed ashley managed to get into politics at all. he didn't exactly distinguish himself in school. i have to wonder how he managed to get bankrolled into running for Congress. i'm curious as to who's pulling HIS strings....

Posted by: John - I've never cared for Butterfield to begin with, as we both live in the same city. Long before he ever became a politician, I tried (in vain) to plead with him to let me out of jury duty when he was just a circuit court judge. I had just started a new job and being a small company, the owner wouldn't pay for my jury duty time, because I hadn't been employeed with his company long enough. I "explained" this to Butterfield - he smuggly looked at me and told me no! So I sat in the jury pool for two days and was never chosen to sit on the jury, losing two days of pay, which I could NOT afford at the time! I've never forgotten that, as it made me furious. Since then, he's all about himself and personally I hope during the next election that involves his seat, that he's voted out. He certain "needs" to be!

Posted by: here Location: here - When are people gonna wake up and realize ALL politics is lies!!! No matter which side your on it is ALL B.S. Now in the next election most people will probably vote more republican and hope for a change, but guess what nothing will because it will be POLITICS as usual. Wake up! Politicans are corrupt. I believe it is part of the job description. As you can see I have no trust in Washington D.C.

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington -I agree with you, this is why I post here on WITN, some will come here to read. Like yourself, we were quiet for a time, however, now, just look around you. When do you remember so many voices opposing what is going on in this country? I don't. They can tell me he is seated next to god, however, this guys voting record....right with dems and right with Obama. He doesn't care about those that voted him in, he cares only about himself and the party. The only guy I will vote back in, Burr, he at least has a voting record that matches what I and many around me, also want. Ignorance is bliss and runs amuck with the democratic party...they just don't get it.

Posted by: amazed Location: washington - The comments on here are 10 to 1 against ol' butterball BUT, as you know, the people who will vote for him again a)don't care b)don't know about this c)won't be on this web site or any other for that matter. True ignorance is our most expensive commodity.

Posted by: Anonymous - "most honest men I know", öutstanding congressman". Have you forgotten his remark about a certain office should be filled by a black person? A racist statement such as that and you still support this fool? Word of advice; take off your blinders so you can actually see the koolaid you're drinking; then quit drinking it!!!!

Posted by: race?-I was reading more on Mr. Butterfield and came across this quote he made to the AP a few years back: Mr. Butterfield went on to tell the AP, "You are a product of your experience. I'm a U.S. congressman, and I feel some degree of discomfort when I'm in an all-white group. We don't have the same view of the world, our experiences have been different." How do people get away with saying this? If a white representative said this but mentioned feelign uncomfortable in an all-black group he would be dragged through the city and labeled as a racist!! This one-way discrimination has got to stop.

Posted by: Anonymous - So Butterfield says it is common to accept funds HOWEVER he would earn much more support if he would give it back given the ethics violations of the one he received it from!! Do the right thing Butterfield!!

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington -Well for those singing his praises, his voting record is right with the president. He forgot who he actually works for, us, we and ours. Time to flush the toilet....

Posted by: anon Location: wallace - how many politicians in the big house go in making $160,000 and come out millionairs? all of them. just look how much they get. the seat was bought for them to do special favors for big donors. they donate to others campains so they can get a favorable vote on something in their own district. it is crooked up there. term limits people, term limits. they work for us , that is what they seem to forget!! remember november.

Posted by: Justice - I personally think every elected official should take a lie detector test once a year to help insure their behavior. Mr Butterfield, you've been called out, how about step up to the plate and show your voters you are an honest man, and take a lie detector test?

Posted by: GUMBY JOHNSON -He's the only demo I voted for and I'm dissapointed. I thought his values were beter.

Posted by: Neo Location: Reality - Ken, if Butterfield is the best of the lot, don't turn your back on any of the people you know, because it is a sorry lot.

Posted by: William Location: Greenville - If Mr. Butterfield is as honest as you say, I'll sure he will recognize the need to step away from a conflict of interest. We'll see....

Posted by: Mike Location: Edenton - I agree with WOW. Add to that Butterfield's statement in no way condemns Rangel, which it should very strongly. He should resign from the committee to be ethical himself. But if anyone thinks he will vote to boot Rangel out they are dreaming or smoking those funny cigarettes.

Posted by: Ken in NC Location: Wilmington -I have known Congressman Butterfield for over 60 years and know him to be one of the most honest men I know. He is good for North Carolina and her people.

Posted by: WOW Location: Pitt County - Congressman Butterball is a bought and paid for Dumocrat-- he votes for whatever the Party Bosses tell him to do. He is a tax and spend, big government, socialistic, liberal who thinks us dumb North Carolinians need Washington to "take care" of us. It is a joke he is on the Ethics Committee---only a few of his DC liberals are more unethical than he is--- God help us all.

Posted by: Anonymous - Butterfield is a crook, but all dumocrats are so.....

Posted by: Matt Location: NC - Jim, you getting a cut? Or, just drinking the kool-aid?

Posted by: Jim Location: Grifton - Mr. Butterfield is an outstanding congressman.

Posted by: irate Location: greenville - Go get'em Ashley!!!!

Posted by: Steve Location: Ayden - Hopefully the liar Butterfield will be stepping down permanently in November.

Posted by: mike Location: eastern NC - Young committed conservatives are exactly what's needed in this age of career Congress people. When you're there too long, you start looking out for yourself and the interests of contributors, not your constituents. Ashley is right on with his criticism of Butterfield. Yet Butterfield would remain on the committee investigating Rangel. It's dishonest and indecent.

Posted by: Oldtimer Location: eastern NC - it would seem to be a conflict of interest for our Congressman to sit in judgement of his benefactor.

Posted by: S Location: ENC - Take it from someone who has been on the inside, the vast majority of incumbent politicians are in office for one reason only...under the table big bucks...Hopefully the majority of people have enough sense at election time to vote for new blood...otherwise,we have no one to blame but ourselves if we keep putting the fox back in the henhouse

Personally, I'm voting for Butterfield because I feel strongly that our representative in Congress MUST live in the district. Ashely Woolard lives in Congressman Walter B. Jones' district.

some of you may not like it but i am an unafiliated voter. i am sick of corruption in both parties. i agree with mr woddard. i support calvin woodard 100 percent for sheriff. i do not support congressman butterfield. he is a part of the big problem in washington. it is hard to judge the ethics unbiased of a friend and a political mentor and financial benefactor.
