“The Challenge” . . . comes when opportunity avails itself whether or not to answer the door.
If you had an opportunity to receive a million dollars would you … answer the door. If you had a chance to travel the world … would you answer the door. If you had the opportunity to eradicate poverty … would answer the door. If you had an opportunity to heal the world to help make this place a better place … would you answer the door?
It’s easy to answer yes with a made up mind yet many find it hard to make up their mind.
I treasure this quote by Frederick Douglass, “ People might not get all they work for in this world, but they must certainly work for all they get.” And I know you’ve heard it said, if you want something, you’ve gotta work for it.
Being good stewards over the opportunities presented to us starts with the basic understanding of the golden rule you probably learned in Kindergarten or Sunday School to “ Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” The opportunity to do a right thing for the right reason at the time . . . is more of a challenge to complete than we sometimes think. And it’s not always about monetary issues like we usually think when we speak upon being a good steward.
I’m also reminded of the bible verse that speaks of us “not thinking more highly of ourselves than we ought.” Perhaps then, we would keep a clearer focus on the importance of our duty, responsibility and obligation to make a positive difference in the lives of our family, our friends and our community. Being a good steward over the things God has assigned each of us in our lives starts within the heart. The eyes may be the window to the soul, but it is within the heart man believes.
What do you believe . . . I believe becoming a positive, motivating force of good for the good makes the difference in helping, hurting or healing. Here’s an opportunity for you to chose to be a “good steward” over your assignment while we journey on this earth. I hear the knock . . . Do you?
