Um Excuse Me ... Ain't is Not a Word

“There comes a time when we all must realize our contributions to our community and society cannot be measured in the years served . .  . but rather if the time we served . . .was served well.”

Not throwing my support behind Wayne Gay has nothing to do with the man’s age nor does it have anything to do with the color of his skin or the company that he keeps. It’s about Ethics, Integrity, Transparency and Accountability. And how come he refused to meet his candidate when an offer was made on several occasions face to face for a one on one in a community forum to allow the citizens of this county an opportunity to size 'em both up at the same time and hear what each had to say.

REASONS WHYUm Ain’t Backing Wayne Gay

Um Ain’t Backing Wayne Gay - And it’s not because I dislike the man. I don’t know the man personally. I know of his name – and if you’ve spent any time in Wilson county you can’t help but know the name – it’s been around since like forever – actually all of my lifetime I’ve not known any other name but Wayne Gay.

Um Ain’t Backing Wayne Gay- And it’s not because he’s a white man. The color of the man’s skin don’t matter to me. He could easily go out to a tanning salon, get a tan and come back looking just like me. That still wouldn’t change the facts Bubba. Um ain’t backing him and Um ain't trying to keep up with the Joneses.

Um Ain’t Backing Wayne Gay - Because Wayne Gay has served his time for this community. It’s time to allow this community an opportunity to experience the 21st century and all the updated – technology that it has to offer us. WE, THE PEOPLE NO LONGER LIVE IN THE ERA OF A SPARTA MISSISSIPPI…AND THIS IS NOT… IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT - CHANGE IS NEEDED, AND REQUIRED AND HAS COME.

Um Ain’t Backing Wayne Gay – Because this job has become a “personal pet project” to him. He doesn’t want the job ‘cause he does it well. He doesn’t want the job because he has hired a new breed of officers who can advance us to a new level of law enforcement in the 21st century. He wants the job now more than ever so he can say he’s put in 30 years with the county and to give his cronies, those who have been “padding their pockets” for years time to get their act together and affairs in order. That’s his goal. Pension plan perks and a hefty retirement.

Um Ain’t Backing Wayne Gay – ‘Cause I hear tell he’s been rehiring a whole bunch of old folks that’s done re-tired from the sheriff’s office bringing um back on the payroll. Don’t you call that kind of thing double-dipping? What’s the real deal behind that move? And how come he can’t hire more young men and women on the force offering them a lifelong career opportunity like he’s had.

Um Ain’t Backing Wayne Gay – ‘Cause the truth be told he’s got some black folks in place who’ve been ‘hoo-dooing” the black community on his behalf for years. Have you seen that sign in East Wilson on Nash St. across from the funeral home near East St and Narroway? (If you don't know where that is, guess we ain't talking to you. If you know where it is, we be talking to you.) We’ve had enough of certain folks in this community thinking they speak for you and me. We have a voice. We can speak for ourselves. When you go vote show em so. You ought to be fed up with somebody saying they can deliver our vote as a black community to Wayne Gay. We’re not stupid and we’re not dumb. And we’re not trying to keep up with the Joneses.

"Keeping up with the Joneses" is a catchphrase in many parts of the English-speaking world referring to the comparison to one's neighbour as a benchmark for social caste or the accumulation of material goods. To fail to "keep up with the Joneses" is perceived as demonstrating socio-economic or cultural inferiority.
