By a two to one margin the democratic voters of Wilson County sent a resounding message to incumbent Sheriff Wayne Gay that he has worn out his welcome as the high sheriff of Wilson county. He should have been beat a long time ago.
What is ironic is he played the race card and minority democrats that have traditionally ...carried Gay in mostly uncontested elections year after year decided they and their votes were not going to be taken for granted by the incumbent anymore. The resounding defeat came from almost all precincts.
Gay only won three or four out of 24 precincts including losing the country club/ new hope hills vote in his home precinct. Even his country club neighbors who know him better than anyone have had a bellyful of him.
The vote was overwhelming from all races, unaffiliated and crossover republicans as well as a large contingent of white democratic voters. The crying and whining and sour grapes has already begun with him trying to find every reason why he was beaten so badly. It was everyone’s fault except his.
He was desperate and out spent Calvin over 200k to 25 k Calvin spent. He is already laying groundwork for a write in candidate where he feels he can really play the race card and get republican support.
Wayne don’t you get it. There was lots of republicans who were mad because they couldn’t vote for Calvin and against you in the primary. All races, all walks of life and all types of voters from dems, cross over republicans and unaffiliated voted overwhelmingly to send you packing.
You have been badly beaten and embarrassed once. Try a write in or some more of your underhanded tactics in November and you will be even more embarrassed. Why don’t you for a change show a little "dignity and class" and accept your butt whipping by a better and more qualified candidate instead of continuing to not accept responsibility.
