Walking Tall the movie is Wilson NC

Community Blogger: Daryl Barber
I want to clear up some misconceptions that some of Sheriff Gay's former employees and backers have made the absurd statement that the incumbent sheriff is the best sheriff in the nation. Where they get that from I have no idea. Unless they are referring to the line of succession since he has had no opposition and been in office so long, to the NC and National Sheriffs Association Leadership. This association is a fundraising and policy think tank for sheriffs. Good politicking, a long time in office and cronyism goes a long way there also. FIRST OF ALL THE BEST SHERIFF IN THE COUNTRY IS SHERIFF JOE ARIPAO OF MARICOPA COUNTY AZ. (in my opinion) Let’s go back to the beginning of Wayne’s illustrious career. He was hired straight from being a bookkeeper at Brown and Williamson Tobacco Co and appointed a detective by then Sheriff Robin Pridgen. In three short years time he was promoted to Detective Lieutenant.

Now all this time mind you the incumbent sheriff and some of his staff were rumored to be protecting the largest prostitution and gambling operations on the east coast for extortion payments and time with some of the girls. Wilson was like the wild west back in those days.

Brothels from the Cherry Hotel, Forest Manor Inn and many others along with gambling operations and illegal liquor houses dotted the county landscape. Apparently now sheriff Gay, if he didn’t know about all this corruption going on at the time, he was the only person in Wilson county who didn’t. And if that was the case he must have been some detective.

To make a long story short Pridgen and others are indicted on federal racketeering charges. Pridgen takes the blame for the whole mess. His chief Deputy Tony Owens was acquitted and Wayne skipped town during the whole trial and unpleasantness only to pop back up later on to call in some markers with his wealthy friends and benefactors and upset the incorruptible Lewis Taylor, a former state trooper appointed to clean up the Pridgen / Owens and Gay administration corruption mess.

Now if I am wrong in my recollections and I have researched archives endlessly just because the total absolute corruption that existed totally amazed me, I will stand corrected. It reminded me of the movie Walking Tall of famed McNairy County TN where Sheriff Buford Pusser and his corruption busting cleaning up of his county.

Now let’s get more updated as a lot of people say it don’t matter what was done in the past. Wayne has literally faced no or only token opposition in all of his reelection bids. But not this time. He faces an extremely qualified and knowledgeable and educated Special Agent with the State Bureau of Investigation in Calvin Woodard. My cousin Lacy Pittman, just retired as an instructor from the SBI. He has nothing but high praise and respect for Calvin’s leadership and law enforcement skills as well as this Godly family man's spiritual and moral qualities. Calvin’s credentials and personal background are well founded and they are impeccable.

Now let’s get back to Sheriff Gay. He has two deputies on his staff who have been charged with DWI. One was convicted. The other got Wayne’s business partner Allen Thomas to plea his DWI to a lesser offense. Both were over the legal limit. One was a deputy with the Wayne County Sheriff Dept and was drunk driving in a patrol car. Now, Gay saw fit to hire him for our sheriff dept. This guy may have been the son of the former Wayne County Sheriff. I know he was a Sasser.

Fast forward to a couple of weekends ago. A semi retired Major with a career in law enforcement under Sheriff Gay’s watchful eye was caught for drunk driving. If this were not an election year this would or will get pleaded down to a misdemeanor and swept under the rug as so many things do.

An insurance agency that Wayne is a co-owner of was the subject of a scandal during the Moore and Perdue governors race. Apparently it was given a selected list of state retirees addresses and personal info as well as a sweet inside exclusive deal that made the company and one of its principals, none other than Wilson County Sheriff Gay a lot of profit that other non politically connected companies did not have fair access to. Gay was a big donor to Moore's campaign.

No one is saying Wayne has done anything illegal. But folks small county sheriff’s just don’t become millionaires with mansions and summer houses off a sheriff’s pay. And there is nothing wrong with anyone wanting to better their standing in life and accumulate wealth.as long as it does not come by defiling the public trust of your sacred office as an elected official. You have to make that judgment in your mind if any of Wayne’s powerful friends, contributors and benefactors and the connections made during his sheriff’s career have contributed to his wealth and if in your mind everything was above board.

A lot of new people have moved into Wilson county in the last 28 years and a lot of them have or had no idea about Wilson county’s wild west days back in the 70"s and Wayne’s hiring, taking under his wing and training and promoting him to Detective Lieutenant by Sheriff Robin Pridgen, the most corrupt sheriff in NC history. I think it is something some people would like to know and use in helping them decide who they want as the chief law enforcement officer in this county.

Not to count he is a big supporter and 1000 plus donor to the honorable congressman G K Butterfield on an annual basis. WE CONSERVATIVES REALLY NEED TO UNITE BEHIND THIS CONSERVATIVE SHERIFF. LOL!!!!!!!!!!

All of this information and then some was published in another member blog who supports the sheriff and chose to delete all that informative archives unfortunately.

FOLKS, I AM AN UNAFILIATED VOTER, I VOTE FOR THE BEST MAN, NOT PARTY.

I HONESTLY FEEL IN MY HEART THAT CALVIN WOODARD IS AN,HONEST, FAIR AND EXTREMELY QUALIFIED CANDIDATE TO LEAD OUR SHERIFF DEPT. SOMETHING THAT SHERIFF GAY HAS NEVER FACED BEFORE IN AN ELECTION , LET ALONE A DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY WHO DUE TO WILSON COUNTY AND THE STATE OF NC BEING IN CORRUPT DEMOCRATIC CONTROL FOR THE BETTER PART OF THE LAST 150 PLUS YEARS ,USUALLY MEANS THE PRIMARY WINNER IS THE SHERIFF. CALVIN WOODARD IS A GODLY FAMILY MAN WHO WILL RESTORE THE FAIRNESS, HONOR AND DIGNITY BACK INTO THE WILSON COUNTY SHERIFF DEPT THAT THE CITIZENS OF WILSON COUNTY HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO EXPECT FROM THE SACRED TRUST OF THE OFFICE.

There are still things going on that are being covered up. Those who work know the things we have seen, policy and procedures not followed, sexual encounters happening at work while on duty, and when it comes out, instead of a investigation and holding people accountable, it quietly just disappears, like it never happened and its bussiness as usual. But I am not the only one who has seen or heard these things. I hope that others will speak up, and make our voices heard

I too have heard the rumors of things that went on over in the detectives building. Someone quit suddenly(supposedly), and the whole mess was swept away. And by the way, who was head of the detectives? HMMMMM doesn't sound like much of a change to me. We all need to support Mr. Woodard if we want a real change. And maybbe he would look ino things and seperate fct from rumors.

Anonymous said...

I could not have said it better myself Mr. Barber. I do remember Robin Pridgen and you are right on the money. If John Farmer wanted to run for sheriff why didn't he come forward before now???? I know who is behind him running for sheriff and who is backing John Farmer. We the people of Wilson County need to take back our county. Let's put and honest God believing man in the sheriffs Department this time.

I have a question. I have read a lot over the last couple of months of wrong doing by Mr. Gay. The people who write it always tell who what where and when the alleged things took place. And that is good, lets put it out in the open and let things fall where they may. That is what this site is all about. I have read several references to somethng that supposedly took place in the detectives building. But never what who and where. People on here have no problem blasting Sheriff Gay and naming names and what happened and when. If something did happen, as it has been suggested lets treat them the same as poor Mr. Gay and Mr. Farmer have been treated. No one had a problem blasting them or naming names or saying what happened. If they are held to public record on here then shouldn't everyone. If these rumors we hear about are more than rumors, then treat those involed the same as Mr. Gay and Mr. Farmer. If other people did wrong and someone knows but doesn't say, then to me they are doing exactly what they accuse Mr. Gay and Farmer of doing. A cover up is when you know something was wrong but you keep quiet. Either put the names and events out here or shut up. Until you do you are as guilty as those you accuse.

You have made a comment by insinuating you know something or you heard something that needs to be told, yet you failed to say EXACTLY what was on your mind. Put UP or YOU - SHUT UP. The author of this post said it. You implied it. Step up or Shut Up. Poor Mr. Gay opened his big mouth and showed everyone who he really was. That's fact. And poor Mr. Farmer, well I hear his hot temper will soon reveal what he is too ... A Wayne Gay version of Minime.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the two previous comments. Poeple who know somethng being done that is not right and who say nthing is as guilty as the ones doing it. Why say anything if you are not going to speak the whole truth. By not doing so it just cast more doubt on the WCSD and detectives in particular. Others have had no problem saying what they think or believe. this is a public forum, and if something is wrong it needs to be told. Look at this as a tip line, if information is put out to the public, we hope someone will ask the right questions and if its true hold those responsible accountable. But if you just whisper accusations without names it cast doubt and shame on all those who work in the detective building. Dont condem all over the alleged acts of one or two. Look at it as not condeming the one, but removing doubt about the rest. If you know something tell it, this is th eplace to say it, it is public and anonymous. But to just whisper rumors casuse as much doubt nd dotrust as the actual deeds. I am not saying shut up, just speak out or dont mke it worse. There are those who want to know the truth, good or bad. The WCSD needs to be trusted and respected again. It can't when we whisper rumors, shout the truth and the clean up begins.

This community has sent a message very loud and clear it is tired of business as usual when it comes to the WCSD. Regardless of how many or how few voters came to the polls...ENOUGH came to say they wanted to see a change. Truth be told, agree or disagree, years of experience that continues the legacy of the past is not a plus for the people. It's the same routine and same regimen. Same doesn't mean change just because of a name change. On the flip side, those concerned about the "inexperience" of the Democratic nominee or the lack thereof of running a department the size of the WCDS are disingenuous. The nominee is qualified, educated, and has law enforcement experience on a local level and statewide as well. No previous sheriff prior to this nominee could ever make that claim. And "IF" you've ever had to work for a living in your lifetime, you too had to start - somewhere. You were allowed the opportunity and had the responsibility of acquainting yourself with a new position. Carrying into that position your experience, your skills, your knowledge and the wisdom/confidence of what you knew you could dutifully perform. You were given that opportunity to make that transition. So why are you so judgmental about allowing someone else to do the same. It's evident those who are so adamant against the nominee and quick to say he doesn't have the experience-you, yourself don't have the qualifications. NOT EVEN CLOSE. Howso, well we didn't see you making a bid for the job as sheriff of Wilson county. Wilsonian voices throughout this county have spoken. This county deserves a chance to experience a different leadership and new strategy to law enforcement in the sheriff's department.

Interesting article on WRAL about the Trooper and his secratary. It is amazing how two similar departments will react to something. One forces the man in charge to resign, the other pretends it never happened. But then I guess that depends on who is in charge of said organazation.

Anonymous said...

Yes I too read the article. It was almost funny how you could change the names and it fits! Only the names and the results at the end are different!

Anonymous said...

OK WHAT NAMES DO THEY NEED TO BE CHANGED TO?

Anonymous said...

Are you saying there was text and emails like this between someone a detective and the secretary wh quit?

Anonymous said...

I am not suprised by anything that happens at wcsd. THEY HAVE THIER OWN RULES AND STANDARDS. A ORGANAZATION usally follws it leaders direction. I would have thought someone in charge would have had the responisbilty to investigate instead of jusy ignore it. Even with all the problems the state troopers have had, at least they step up a admitt their short comings. We all are human and make mistakes, But they hold those who di it responsible. They have a code of conduct and it you violate it you are held responsible. They at least when they find or suspect a problem, takes steps to fix it and dont try to hide it, maybe WCSD needs a internal affairs group or someone other than the sheriff to investgate wrong doings in his department. Most of us would tend to hide embarasing situtations when we could, but on the other hand if a citizen broke the law these samee people are there to hold you accountabl for your actions This cannot be accepted by the people of Wilson. I would think if anything they would be held to a higher standard.
Maybe oneof the first things mr. Woodard will do if he is elected is set up a way for things or allegations of misconduct by offieces of the department to be investigated for real and not hanled in a way the is best for the departments image. Rest asssured you and I would be held accountable by the WCSD if we were in the wrong. But they fail to do the same for thier own,

Anonymous said...

Both Gov. Beverly Perdue and Glover have adopted a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct issues – a measure, Young said, to which the Patrol is committed to keep the confidence and trust of the people.

"I think 99 percent of the members of the Highway Patrol get up every day committed to doing a good job, – and I would dare say, do a good job," Young said. "I think it's unfortunate that when you have incidences that involve individuals who make bad decisions that it's a reflection on the patrol."

In May, Glover sent a memo to all troopers saying those who embarrass the organization would be "dealt with."

this what WCSD needs

I WOULD STILL LIKE TO KNOW WHO DID WHAT. fROM WHAT I HAVE READ IT IS ONLY HINTS AND SHADOWS. SOMETHING ABOUT TEXT AND SEX IN THE DETECTIVE BUIDING? AGAIN IF YOU GONNA SAY SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING WITH SOME TEETH. HECK EVEN IF SOMEONE WANTED TO INVESTAGATE THIS, IT WOULD BE HARD TO FIGURE OUT. JUST GIVE A NAME OR SOMETHING MORE THAN SHADOWS, AND WHO EXACTLY KNEW AND DID NOTHING? DONT SPEAK IN RIDDLES, JUST SAY WHAT YOU KNOW OR HEARD OR WHATEVER.

Anonymous said...

I find this most interesting. There has been some amazing comments made here the last few days. I know there has been some shady things wriiten about our Sheriff and his department. But i wonder could even he turn a blind eye to what has been hinted at here? If I was the Sheriff, I would want to know the truth. If it's true I would not want to leave such a mess for someone else to dig into and clean up.

Anonymous said...

If there has been the same thing going on here like what we read on WRAL concerning the NCHP then it should be addressed. But if this event or events did happen and nothing was done as it has been suggested, then we can't really expect anything be done about it unless we have new leadership. If this occured under Gay and Farmer and Baily's leadership and nothing was done, does anyne expect diffeent if Farmer wins? No, not only will this incident remain buried, all the other things will stay the same also. I am sure this event that has caught some of our interest is not the only thing buried by the current administration. I for one hope Mr Woodard or someone on his staff reads this and deicides to look into it, and not only this but all the other things we have read or heard here. The WCSD has no respect or crediabilty with the people of Wilson. The people spoke in the primary, and I feel they will speak again in the election. Even if Farmer wins, I hope he has heard the message. Be like the NCHP and other orgnizations we read bout. Hold you people accountable to their actions. We dont know really what if anything happened. It could be these are all just rumors, but usally rumors are based in truth. We dont know, but I am sure Gay, Farmer and Baily would know if this is a rumor or has some truth in it I would hope they would act in a way the the people of Wilson would approve of. Things like this always find a way to surface.

Anonymous said...

DOES ANYONE ELSE WONDER WHY THERE IS NO REBUTAL FROM WCSD? I AM SURE SOMEONE THERE HAS TO HAVE READ THIS. THEY MUSBE HOPING IT WILL GO AWAY.

Anonymous said...

I am curious to these events. I would like to know what is fact and what is rumors. Am I the only one? If enough people ask the same question it cannot be ignored.

Anonymous said...

I said before, if it needs t be addressed give us a name. We have got an idea of what happened from what has been written. Text, emails and sex. Now give us a name or let it go. That is if its true and you really know anything.

Anonymous said...

IT IS TRUE. WOULD NOT BE HARD TO CHECK. OTHERS HAVE HAD THINGS LIKE THIS HAPPEN, BUT THEY HAD THE INTEGRITY TO INVESTIGATE AND HOLD THSE RESPONSIBLE ACCOUNTABLE.

Anonymous said...

It would be intereing to hear a response from Wilson Sheriff's Office. They seem stargely quite. I would have thought they would want to defend their image. But if these things I have read here are true, then silence would be the response one would expect. Maybe someone in position to investigate this will decide to do so.

Anonymous said...

I wonder what would happen if someone asked the Sheriff Department for a comment on their knowledge of this. Since the NCHP can pull up emails and texts, can't the Sheriff Dept? Have they even looked? Someone needs too.

Anonymous said...

Maybe someone needs to ask these questions the the sheriff, or someone with the power to look into it. Does the Sheriffs office have an interanl affairs devision or is that just TV hype? Sounds like questions that needs to be addressed. Are you listening Mr. Woodard?

Anonymous said...

EVERYTHING SUGGESTED ABOVE IS TRUE, ALL ONE WOULD HAVE TO DO IS A LITTLE RESEARCH,

Anonymous said...

I'll do the research tell me where to start.

Keep us posted on your research. I find this more believable in wake of Boykin's behavior. He is not following policy of the Democratic Party, in full view of he public. It's like I will do what I want in spite of policy and public opinion. He is in a position to set examples. Is this the same mentality that he uses in enforcing policy in the WCSD? After what Gay has said and done, Boykin is now saying I dont care about policy or what the public has said during the primary. I will do as I see best. Yes I can believe the scandl hinted at above. I can see it happening, and then instead of investigating and holding those involved accountable, covering it up. What do they have to fear. Certianly not violating polices, nor public opinion. Not us the public whom they are supposed to serve. No they have put themselves above the law, above rules and policy, above doing what is right, above what we the public wants. It is time they should be held accountable for their actions. If Mr. Woodard wins, I hope someone in his organaztion ecides to look into this. It is not ignored in other organazations, why should we the people of Wilson settle for less. Yes please keep us informed.

Anonymous said...

It's been said one reason Gay has not been investigated is because he has the SBI in his back pocket. Interesting note. If the SBI won't touch the FBI don't. So where do you go from there?

Anonymous said...

Don't know if it makes a diffrence but Attorney General Eric Holder called Gay's camp and told him to stop harrassing Woodard and trying to get him fired from the SBI. perhaps he needs to launch his own investigation.

Anonymous said...

If he did he would find scandals and cover ups. Maybe he should take a look. If the same thing did happen here as at the Highway Patrol, shouldn't those involved be held responsible fo their actions? We should not have two sets of standards. It would be very interessting to see what comes of this. Sounds to me like what happen with the Patrol happened here, but with a differrent ending.

Anonymous said...

I just read where the candidates are supposed to have a debate in Sept. I wonder if they will be taking questions from people in attendance? It would be interesting to hear Farmer's comments on the things suggested here. Rumors last a while then die. What has been hinted at on here doesn't seem to go away. If it is true sooner or later it will leak out as it appears to be starting to do now. I would love to hear his comments now on this so he takes a position, then if and when it breaks through at these thing always do, we will see then if he told the truth. Enough people now want the truth, and the truth eventually always comes out. When it does we will see who has been truthfull and how has betrayed the public's trust. Maybe someone will ask the right questions....there are a lot of interested voters listening.

Anonymous said...

While Bev Perdue is into signing ethics bills and cleaning up the state troopers why not all concerned here send an email asking her to investigate the WCSD too because the SBI won't do it.

Anonymous said...

Good idea. If enough people write and ask for it, maybe something will be done. I intend to write and encourage others to do the same. Maybe the truth will come out then. Everything I have read and heard warrents at least someone outsde the WCSD looking into it.

So since there are two involved in particular what's the other name so the researcher can investigate both names at the same time.

Did no one in upper management not ask why? Did they not know somethign wasn't right?

Anonymous said...

Thats the point, they did know.

Anonymous said...

WHAT I WOULD LIKE IS FOR GAY FARMER OR BAILY TO RESPOND TO THIS. DIDIT HAPPEN IS THERE PROOF?

Anonymous said...

OR SOMEONE TO LOOK INTO THIS ANS SEE IF ANYTHING REALLY HAPPENED.

Anonymous said...

I wonder why it is the WCSD can reply or respond to some things on here, such as Gay apologing for the way he reacted after the election. Or Farmer comenting on the salery issue. But on serious matters such as Boykin not support the Democratic Candidate, or this sex on the job thing, they are strangely silent. i guess they think by ignoring it, it will go away. But people want to know, they want answers.

Anonymous said...

I think that this whole WCSD thing will come to an end when Calvin Woodard wins the election in November. As a person who spoke up at a job several years ago and got fired for it, I understand a little why no one wants to speak up. Remember, the Dictator is still in power. He has the ability until November 20th to fire anyone he pleases. In this economy, I imagine a lot of the employees are sickened by his power over them. He can decide whether their bills get paid or their family eats. I am sure he has made it very clear where he stands on any little indication that an employee might not support Farmer. The majority of the employees at WCSD know Calvin Woodard. If they are guilty of wrong doing, they probably are afraid they will be let go when Calvin is sworn in and rightly so. If they are not guilty of any wrong doing, then they are probably like I said before, afraid for their jobs. Fear has ruled for a long time on Green Street. Calvin is very knowledgeable about what has gone on and he has had the courage to stand up and ask the county for the opportunity to do the right thing and clean up the Sheriff's Department. John Farmer did not have the courage to stand up and run against his boss. He also did not tell his friend Chris Boykin that the right thing to do would be to step down as Democratic Chair of Wilson County. A true friend tells you when you are wrong. That shows something about his character. He seems to be taking his run as if it were a game. If I don't win, I will go to the beach and hang out. Such ambition. John Farmer does not have a very good reputation. I have personally heard he is heavy handed when it comes to minorities from people who have seen this abuse first hand. He is very quick tempered and makes poor judgments because of his quick temper. There has been a lot of cover up in that area, I would imagine. Because he has been friends with Gay, this behavior has been swept under the carpet also. We all need to write or call the Governor and ask for an investigation on the whole bunch on Green Street, starting with Gay, Farmer and Boykin. I think it will be done soon and it would be very interesting to see the Unaffiliated Candidate arrested before the November 2nd vote. I think the people of Wilson County deserve better than what we have gotten the last few years. Calvin Woodard is an intelligent, educated, courageous and capable man. When a person of this caliber comes along, one is wise to get behind him and support him. Wilson County deserves the best and the best candidate is Calvin Woodard. And thank you to the people that came forward and asked for Boykin's resignation as Party Chair. You are courageous people.

The last writer made some very good comments. In fact in the alleged happenings over in the detectives building the girl who suddenly quit was a minority. It fits in with what you said for the other was white. I hope wha you say is true and that when Mr. Woodard wins he or someone in his camp has read these articles and decides to ask some questions. If he his interested the proof is out there. As we have seen in other comments here, there is a lot of things not right, and a lot of poeple know about it and want to talk. You have hit it on the head. Until there is a change in power people wont say anything for fear of their job. But it seems to be now slowly coming out as these things do. And if it is true, thenothers know about it, there will people and proof out there. We have an idea what happened, we have names, all we need is someone in a position to do something about it to WANT to know the truth and hold those resposnible accountable. Are you listening Mr. Woodard? We hope you or someone in your camp follows this web site. The truth is out there, you just have to want to here it.

I totally agree with the Anonymous writer August 9 @ 6:34pm who broke it down plain and simple. And I also agree with the Anonymous writer August 10 @ 7:17am - to a certain degree. We differ when you get to the point where you're asking Woodard if he's listening. You mention the need for someone in a position to do something about it to want to know the truth. WELL, we all want to know the truth and believe it or not WE ALL are in a position to do something about it. The challenge is for you and for the others who have written here on this blog to do what you've already shown you do best - that is to WRITE! For starters BEV PERDUE, she's in the mood for cleaning stuff up right now. Let's hit her up with what's going on here in Wilson.

Anonymous said...

You are right, and I have written asking for someone to lookinto it. As of yet it has not happened. That is why I asked Woodard if he was listening.Sometimes we need to clean up our own mess. But you are write I shall write and ask again.
thanks for jogging me in the right direction.

MAYBE SOMEONE SHULD ASK BASS IF HE IS LISTENING. iF THIS IS TRUE AND I WERE HIM I WOULD BE WORRIED. THE TIME OF DOING AS YOU PLEASE WITH NO ACCOUNTABILTY I BELIEVE ARE DRAWING TO A CLOSE.

Anonymous said...

This is a amazing story if true. How do you have sex in a place like the sheriff's office during the day and no one know about it? Or maybe they did but just ignored it?

Anonymous said...

I can believe it. I too heard stoires about things in the detectives building. At the time I figured what I heard was just blown out of focus. But when the girl quit all of a sudden, just came in cleaned out her desk and was gone, I suspected what we had been hearing was true. Now it seems more and more keeps coming to the surface, and if happened as we heard, it should. People in such positions should not b allowed to conduct themselves in such a manner without being held accountable.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone asked Gay or Farmer, Baily or even Bass abot this? I am interested what their side of the story is. Was it looked into? Any proof? We are only hearing one side. These are serious things being said aout our own Wilson Sheriff's Office and it's employee's. If it happened why is Bass still there? If it didn't then issue a comment saying it's not true. Silence only makes you look guilty. I m trying to keep an oen mind, but I am only hearing one side. Maybe at the debate someone will ask the right qustions?

Anonymous said...

I read today that Chris Boykin resigned as chairman of the Democratic Party. That is a start. The onlyreason he did was because of the petition started to have him removed was going to do just that. It is sad that is what it took to make it happen. The truth came out, Boykin did not support Woodard, that is his right, but he should have done the right thing and resigned long ago. We have all read of the accusations of wrongdoings in the detective's building. Same situation, too many people know what went on, its a fact and it is known. To ignore it wont change the fact it happened. It's just a matter of time untill someone ask the right questions. Like with Boykin, the truth will surface. I know those in power now, wont come forward and admitt the truth, for to do someans admitting they knew it happend but chose to cover it up. But something like this doesn't stay burried. Too many people know. Maybe if and when WOODARD wins he will not want this hanging over his department

Anonymous said...

If all this stuff I have read is ture, why has nothing been done? Do we need a petition? I would hate to know this kind of stuff has gone on in the Sheriff's department. I would be more appalled happened as written. The public has the right to expect the employee's of the Sheriff Department to conduct themselves in a professional manner. What is worse is if this happened as has been told here, why was it not investigated, and if true then both parties should have been held accountable. Was the female half of this terminated? Was she asked to resign? Why was the male allowed to stay if these things are true. We dont know the facts, we have heard only ruors of things that supposedly happened. But if enough people keep saying it is true then maybe it is. And if it is then who knew what happened? How far up the chain of command does this go? Lots of questions. The last few months have caused a lot of negative publicity for Wilson Sheriff's Department. Not only this potential scandal, but the actions off Gay, and Boykin have given the department a black eye. This is a very serious incident if true. If it is true then it needs to be cleaned any involved held accountable. One way to begin rebuilding it's image would be to clean up it's own house. Take all the algeded incidents and invsetigated, did they happen? If so say they did hold those responsible and move on. The public would have much more respect fo the deparment. If it happened it should be easy to find out. The highway patrol when it heard rumors, it investigated. There were phone records, texts, emails. Does Wilson Sheriff Department not have the same tools, (comouters, phones)? If so the evidence is there, all one would have to do is care enough to look. Right nw the public has a very low reguard for the Departments public image. Want to clean it up> Then start checking this story along with others out and tell us what you find.

Lots of anonymous's with lots of information been talking back and forth about the stuff supposedly going on in the Sheriff's department... if you want to clean it up start initiating the process yourself instead of giving orders for somebody else to do it. Folks who got time to whine can take that time and make something happen towards the change they wanna see. You can do your part by writing and emailing the Attorney General and Bev Perdue. Send them anonymous stuff just like you do hear...hell WRAL been here a time or two write them. That's one thing you can do is write - you done proved that here. Dont know about the others, but I did write Governer Perdue, and ask that these things be looked into, as far as I know, nothing has yet been done.

But you missed the point, of at least what I was trying to say. The WCSD has a image problem. The best way to improve that is for them (WCSD) to clean up their own house. If someone else comes in and checks these facts out, it is like Boykin's situation. He did not resign because it was the right thing to do, he resigned because he was about to be removed. If Gay, or Baily checks this out and deals with it own their own it has a much better impact on what the Department needs. Positive image. But you are right it is not going to happen. And one letter will not cause anyone else to look into it. I wrote it and still nothing has happened. My point I think was to get more people asking questions. One voice alone has little impact. The more people who ask what really happened the better chance it will be looked into.

So what do you do if you have written and asked for an investagation and nothing happens? I guess someone who knows will have to speak up and say wht they know. But I dont see that happening, they fear for their job, and I cant blame them. Maybe someone not in the department knows something or has proof. If what we have read is true like other agencies, their has to be proof on the computer (emails) or phone records, (calls or texts). Problem is someone in authority has to request it be looked into.
Seems to me this is the way the department works, if it's true and they dont like it they just ignore the public's request. (remember Boykin) Time will tell, the truth usally leaks out.

I jut wonder why there is no comment, disclaimer or anything from the Sheriff's Office. I would think they would want to clear the air around this. One of their detectives has been implicated in some serious misconduct if this indeed happened. some on here haveasked questions, some have said they wrote and asked for an investigation. The silence makes one wonder. Not to harp on an old story, but Boykin was also silent right up until he was about to be removed. The department has some serious problems with public image right now. There are a lot of rumors and stories coming out now. A lot of this is because of the election I guess. But this is something I think that i not going to fade away. To much has been said, to many question unanswered. A the public, how can we accept thi kind of a shadow to hang over our Sheriff' office and not demand answers. We not only want answers, we have the right to know. Hopefully others like myself and the other's on here will keep asking questions. Sooner or later
the truth will surface. Maybe someone who know the truth will speak up. If not publicly, then as a anonymous message. Ifit happened as the previous writer stated, there has to be proof or a trail. If it i true then someone knows, there is always a trial.

We hear there was a auction by the sheriff's office recently anybody else hear the same or when it was?

No but there is a lot that goes on there we don't hear about. They think they dont have to obey the rules. But that will oon change.

I was alsways taught if you have a question just ask, if you have nothing to hide you shouldn't have a problem answering. Detective Bass, anything to the rumor going around? Anything to it or not?

I guess the previous writer has never heard of the blue wall of silence. The only way anyhting will be done, or even looked into, to see if something did happen is one of two ways. First an outside agency looks into it, or second,if we get a new sheriff. Maybe he decides he needs to clean his house before attempting to clean the county. During this election process we have seen Gays behavior when he lost. Do you think now he will come and and say " we had employee's having sex at the Sheriff's Department Building while on duty. No he won't. You think Bass will come forward and tell his side. NO. Will Farmer come forward if he wins and say this thing happened while I was the number 2 man and I said nothing. Again not goning to happen. All three of them want this to disappear. Now in there defense, none of this may have happened. We all know how someone might see something completely innocent, and it gets told and retold and it grows each time. I wasn't there, I didnt see it. But I do know when something won;t die as this seems to hang around there is usally some merrit to the story. Did someone quit suddenly with no warning or notice? I dont know. But more than one person on here has claimed at least there is some truth to these stories. One even claims to have written and asked for an investigation. Sometimes it takes time and for all we know there may be one under way. But then again, this isn't a high profile incident. We are talking a detective and a secratary at a county Sheriff's office, Not a high profile public figure or a ranking Highway Patrol Officer. We are small fish in a small pond. The most likely way it will be looked into is if Mr. Woodard wins in November. I would hope that "he" would want to know the truth and one way for him to earn the public's respect, and some respect back for the Wilson Sheriff's office, if this is true, then take steps to clean it up and say "we had issues" but we have taken steps to make things right. And I am sure tht this is noot the only thing in our Sheriff's office that needs cleaning up. For 28 or so years things have been done one way. Wilson has already said ENOUGH! Even if this and the other things we have read and heard are not completely true, when these type of stories continue to surface, then something is not right. Who ever wins this election, his first act as Sheriff should be to look at his department, and the people. It seems there are a few people their whose actions if true are not what the public expects from people who are supposed to be upholding the law. We are getting a change, I hope someone in both candidates campaign at least reads these comments. Maybe they will be passed along to Mr. Farmer and Mr. Woodard. Maybe whichever one wins will decide this is not what I want in my department. We cn only hope. In November we will have a change. How much, and whether that change will be for the better, or just a name change on the big door we will have to wait to see. But enough questions about many things have been raised during this election< maybe some of these things will be looked into. In time we will see.

Wow! Just rea thru all these comments. Amazing if true. This guy Bass was having an affair with his secratary while at work on the job. How could this appen and no one know? if the Sheriffs office so blind that people canhave sex right there no one see. If this is true thenhow do they ever solve a crime. I am amazed.

Our previous writer commented he was amazed something like this could happen. It could and probally did. It happens everywhere. That they did it at work, considering where "work" is, is whatis really amazing. Either the people their were blind, or they just turned a blind eye to the things happening. My first question would be, Why did the secratary quit? If she did quit with no notice it would make you think someone found out. Next question would be who found out. Why would she quit and not him? Sounds like she someone outside of thier work group found out. Husband maybe? That brings up the question of did their supervisors know? If they did it seems that they thought, ok she is gone problem solved. That does sound like the logic the current adminstration has taken. We know they read things on here. They have apologized and made comments on here before. Does anyone ellse think is strange they choose to ignore this? Like someone else wrote on here, during a election all the trash gets dug up. Is this story true? Is it patially true? Is it a total rumor made up around something that happened. We dont know, the secratary quiting may have started a rumor that just grew as rumors sometimes do. But the people who know, Bass, Baily, Farmer, Gay... they are all strangely quite.

I have a question for Mr. Bass. Is any of this stuff true? If not why not issue a disclaimer. Coud it be it is true? It is very strange everyone involved just ignores what is written here.
