Gay Needs to Apologize to Community Too

A week ago today things got pretty heated in Wilson NC. The Wilson County Sheriff's race was the talk of the town. By the close of the evening residents declared, "There’s a new sheriff in town." What a day! Emotions ran high and the ousted sheriff wasn't happy about the way the day ended. His rants of it's not over and the insults he proclaimed calling his challenger a fool didn't sit very well with Wilsonians.Verbally attacking Woodard's qualifications and dismissing his experience as a deputy with the WCSO and as an SBI agent were downright mean-spirited and indignant. Residents weren't very pleased with the "bad behavior" displayed by Sheriff Gay.

It took a few days to blow over but somebody finally got through to the sheriff and told him he needed to do the right thing which must have been pretty hard when you're used to doing the opposite. We'll give a bit of credit where it's due since he did allow an apology to come forth.

Now that the dust is starting to settle and in the spirit of calling upon the sheriff to "try to rebuild on what he has torn apart" Wayne Gay needs to apologize to the entire Wilson community. Apologizing to Woodard was the first step in the right direction. What needs to happen now is the same gesture to the citizens of this city and county who had to endure the "rude rhetoric."

Here's your opportunity to be the "shining sheriff" you believe yourself to be. Show the children and the community you deserve to be remembered for the positive impact you've had on the county. The children are watching and the citizens are listening. As you have declared  "The Sheriff Shall Keep and Preserve the Peace of his County".
